    Calzaghe V Hopkins

Just been listening to Newstalk in Ireland, the have a daily 3 hour sports show from 7-10 every week night. They were interviewing Bernard Hopkins Tonight.
Straight away they asked him if he would fight Calzaghe, Hopkins said, they have already offered Frank Warren a contract. He said he is not sure if Joe knows the ins and outs of the contract, but has definitely one been offered, and it will be to fight in the states. Didn't say where about in the states though.
The Reporter said they interviewed Calzaghe the week before, and told Hopkins what Calzaghe had said about him, being all mouth etc. But Hopkins said, let Joe keep doing the talking, I have a great CV, I have fought in the Lions Den, where as Joe only ever fights at home, and has not come to America to fight the big dogs or move up and down in weight classes.
He said they could be fighting early next year if Joe signs the contract.

I just hope this is not a fight that escapes us. Should be an excellent fight if it comes off, Hopkins called himself the south Paw killer, stating that he has just beaten three of them in his last fights.
I am not sure how old he is now, but how long can this man go on for, surely he is into his 40s. Hard fight to call. But one surely Joe has to take.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

FLMAO @ letting Joe do the talking, after Hopkins has been talking about 'facelifts' all week. Hopkins also said that 'great champions travel to fight'. He said that right after refusing to travel to fight Calzaghe. Hopkins hasn't been out of the States since the first Mercado fight, and he's never won a world title fight abroad.

Fair enough, Hopkins is the legend here and Joe should travel to fight him, but old Bernard is talking some **** here.

if Joe takes this, and Ill bet the first contract was utter ****, he will win convincingly, I say this as hopkins has, in my opinion, noticeably deteriorated over his past few fights and he was never a fast fighter in the first place. Joe could destroy him as convincingly as he did lacey. And the same applies for Jones jnr. Calzaghe may get these fights but it will be to earn lots of cash for his retirement and to show the yanks hes a real superstar.
He should have had these fights 3-5years ago.

Hopkins has backed off and delayed signing the contract which shows how mouthy he really is. Calzaghe has been taunting him this week about Hopkins saying he should be a 'chat show host with the amount of talking he does'.

Hopkins has said to Frank Warren according to one paper he wants double the money then what was offered before.

The rumoured venues are Madison Square Garden and Yankee Stadium. Fingers crossed it happens

He was talking about a face lift again tonight for Joe that is.
I think Calzaghe said Hopkins was the Oprah Winfrey of boxing, does all the talking and doesn't back it up.

I hope this fight happens as it will give Joe the big payday he deserves - and I think Joe would take Hopkins to the cleaners too!

Still doubt that Hopkins will agree to it though due to wanting more, and more, money!

Its disappointing that these fights are only looking to happen when boxers are in the twilight of their careers.

I know its all down to money but this fight would have been awesome 3 years ago. It will still be some fight now and you would have to fancy Calzaghe if it does happen now.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

Calzaghe in Yankee Stadium. He better hope the fight in not in the summer.

Calzaghe could have decent support if the fight is in NY.

Should be almost as good as the Hatton V Mayweather fight

Kinhell - the age of these two geezers - they'll be returning to their zimmer frames at the end of each round !!!

Calzaghe would out work Hopkins. Its as simple as that and I suspect Hopkins knows it. I don't think this fight will happen.

All Hopkins was saying on the radio was, if he agrees to the contract. I have no idea what that contract is.
