    Tito vs Jones Jnr

    I mean what the hell?!

Granted it will be a good spectacle but both of these are way past their best and Trinidad having never entered the ring heavier than the 160lbs for his last fight, while it is more than 11 years since Jones fought at less than 170, means that it is merely a formality for Jones Jnr to claim victory.
In my opinion this is an easy take for Jones Jnr to ensure he is still available for a huge pay day with Calzaghe later on in the year.
For Tito just 1 last big pay day.
Jones Jnr will piss about until the later rounds until he claims a stoppage, or if Trinidad is in better shape than I expect he may just cling on for a points decision.
    Stupid fight in my mind.

I know, it really sounds like an exhibition fight, neither fighter will be anywhere near in the shape of their career.
It is a pity, because Jones was my favorite fighter. These fights should have happened years go with Calzaghe. Jones In his prime, he would have wiped the floor with Calzaghe. But I don't think he would now.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Exhibition fight is exactly what it will be.
Jones Jnr wiping the floor with Calzaghe in his prime...mmmm, I beg to differ, but I guarantee it would have been a better fight than it will be when Calzaghe does a lacey on him next year.
If I were Jones id stay well clear, go after Hopkins, at least both of those are in the same shape. Past it.

Jones is a Hollywood boxer, as soon as he started becoming the Holywod boxer, he slowly started loosing focus. He is a shadow of his former self in boxing terms. I followed Jones' career very closely, I rated him that much, mostly by watching over the Internet as at the time, Sky were not showing may of the US big fights of his, that or either Jones never gave them the rights to air them. Which was such a shame, as I feel alot of people missed out on some great shows by Jones, he was quite literally playing with the divisons he was fighting in at one stage, ll he had to do was turn up. I will say it, in his prime, Jones had the ability to be the best fighter in history. He was that good, it is a massive disappointment for me to see his decline.

I think you're being a little harsh on Jones.

Jones is top 5 P4P all time in my opinion. The standards that Jones set early in his career were literally unsustainable. Given that Jones relayed so much on reflexes and quick movement it's really no surprise that he has declined in the last few years. Time waits for no man. Unless they are called Bernard Hopkins.

I don't think I am being harsh on him mate.
In his warm up to fights his was playing in basketball matches and living the Hollywood lifestyle, I can't remember which fights this type of preparation was proceeding, but I felt, and may others at the time, that he took his eye off the ball(or glove) which started his early decline.
I say this because it almost seemed overnight he was a shadow of himself.
You are right though, at this stage, his fighting style will be hampered by age.
Something that was also blamed on his loosing some of what he had, was moving up and down weights so frequently. I guess it was a mixture of all of the above.

He played basketball before the Eric Lucas fight. That was before the HBO deal.

In fairness to Roy he could have fought with two hands tied behind his back and still beaten Lucas. He was in his absolute prime during his super middleweight reign.

That's what I'm saying. The basketball shenanigans was before his decline. He went on to destroy Griffin and Hill after that fight.

And when he knocked out Glen Kelly, he literally did have both hands behind his back.

There was the whole fight-dodging thing in the late nineties, but I never really put any weight on that. The decline of Jones didn't really start until after the Ruiz fight. I don't know if he had trouble getting rid of the weight he had put on, but he was a shambles in the Tarver and Johnson fights. He put the weight on so well, pure muscle, that it must have been a stretch coming back down.

That would primarily be the biggest reason IMO why he lost some of what he had, going up and down weight divisions too much.
I could not remember which fight the basketball incident was before, but that kind of approach, despite the fact he beat him, will eventually lead to you not being 100%, it is all a factor. His age now doesn't help the cause either.
Any fights I have seen him in since, he has looked a shodow of himself, I don't think he ever will be. Not at this stage of his career.

Even the commentators on Sky(replayed a few days after) said they felt privileged to have seen that fight.
