The British Boxing Board of Control should drug test Junior Witter.

By Andrew Wake: Britain’s World Boxing Council light welterweight champion Junior “The Hitter” Witter feels that he is the man to do what his countryman and arch rival Ricky Hatton couldn’t by beating pound for pound king “Pretty boy” Floyd Mayweather. In an interview with South Yorkshire newspaper The Star, 33 year old Witter said “I get up for a challenge and they do not get any bigger than Floyd Mayweather. I'd rate it 60-40… in my favour.”

He added: “The fight nearly happened in 2006 when I became his mandatory opponent but Mayweather had to pull out through injury and then moved up a weight.

“My promoter plans to talk to Mayweather's advisers to see if we can get it on again.

“Mayweather has said he wants to come and box in England, so this would be the perfect opportunity for him.”

Asked whether he saw any problems in fighting at the higher weight of 147 pounds the Bradford native, who has lost only once in his career when he was out pointed by Zab Judah seven years ago, replied “I would still have the power and the speed at that weight so its no problem.”

My take? Well, considering that “The Hitter” has been unable to lure Ricky Hatton home for what would be a massive all British match up, I feel the likelihood of a modern great like Floyd Mayweather Jnr jumping on a plane and coming across the pond is very, very slim.

That said, Mayweather has expressed his newly found love of the British and has stated that he would like to showcase his talents on these shores if he doesn’t retire immediately, the key problems though are 1) Witter sells less tickets than your average third tier soccer team and 2) fights with either Paul Williams or Miguel Cotto would generate more of what the “Pretty boy” loves best…Money

Problem is Coto and quite possibly Williams may give PBF a beating.

Anyhow Witter is no more deluded than Enzo.

I'd love to have some of what this cunt's smoking.

People wonder why he's hated and this is exactly why. Delusions of grandeur.

I hate the way that he's fought and beaten no one yet still thinks he's it. All he does is try and make a name for himself off other peoples back.

He's an average fighter who would be stopped inside 6 by Floyd.

On this statement he definitely is. His last fight was in front of two hookers and a tramp in a Doncaster bus shelter. Hardly a draw is he?

          He's pathetic.

PBF would beat Cotto purely on styles, id say it would be a unanamous points decision or a late stoppage for pbf. The other fella ill be honest and say I know nothing about.
As for Witter, well, I had to check the date...hes an idiot of the highest order.

Enzo getting grief due to the Haye scenario? Thats not as clean cut as the Haye fans think, on boxing skills then Haye would have to win and to be fair Enzo is a bit ponderous at times, still he has improved tenfold under the other Enzo and I fancy his destructive power to stop Haye early on. If it happens!!

This Junior Whitter chap is just making himself a laughing stock.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

              * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

Do any of you think Hatton will ever fight Witter just to shut him up. i cant see him doing so but would love to see him knock Witter out.

Did he not say he would consider it after another two or three fights?.
I think alot could depend naturally on them fights.

Im not sure mate, i hope so though. To be honest iv never seen much of Witter, one of the only fights iv seen him in was when he got beat by Zab Judah.
He just always seems to be talking abut Hatton.

Yes, Hatton is deffo his meal ticket. It seems Witter is quite prepared to take a loss in order to get paid. He will never been seen as an Icon though, not in the class of Hatton, Benn, Eubanks etc.
