I've been away for a week, so haven't been able to comment in this thread, or read it yet.

FWIW i don't think monkey is a racist term FFS, Symonds and the Aussies have overreacted. Also Symonds comments in the paper the other day, well quite frankly i think he's made a bit of a fool of himself saying 'racial abuse' is unacceptable on the cricket field, but between mates and all that he doesn't have a problem with it.

But, that said, the Indian Cricket Board should stop acting like they run the ****ing joint, i mean boycott the tour? ****ing hell, grow some ****ing balls.

Both camps are to blame, i commend Kumble for his comments in the midst of this 'crisis', if only there were more men like him.

Nice to hear some balance from an Aussie!

I think it would be racist if Singh meant to offend Symonds on account of his race. However, (if it even happened), I'm yet to be convinced of that, although apparently there's some form. It would be interesting to hear what provoked it.

The fact it's a common Indian 'friendly insult' also clouds the issue.

                Ramprakash tells of 'Aussie racism'

FORMER England batsman Mark Ramprakash says the only racism he ever encountered was playing against Australia.

Ramprakash, whose father was born in Guyana of Indian parents, made the claim in a speech at the British Asian Sports Awards.

"I've played cricket for a long time now and you expect it (racism) now and again from a few supporters who are tanked up after drinking all day,'' he was quoted as saying on the England and Wales Cricket Board website.

"The only time I've suffered any abuse of a serious racial kind in international cricket is against the Australians so I'm not sure what that says about them.''

Ramprakash, 38, whose last Test was in 2002, also said when he played against Australia he did not let their policy of ``mental disintegration'' affect him.

"As for the sledging, it is something that Australia have always done,'' he said.

"This isn't something which has got worse - they play the game hard and trying to put you off by sledging is the way they have always played the game.''

Ramprakash threw his support behind former Surrey team-mate Harbhajan Singh, saying he believed the Indian spinner to be innocent of alleged racial abuse against Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds.

"I've played with Harbhajan for two seasons at Surrey and, having got to know him well, it's not the kind of thing I imagine he would say,''
                Ramprakash said.

Harbhajan was banned for three Tests after match referee Mike Procter upheld a complaint that he called Symonds a "monkey'' during the acrimonious second Test in Sydney.

Harbhajan will have an appeal against his suspension heard after the fourth Test in Adelaide and can play pending that verdict.

I can sort of see where you're coming from, say if he called Symonds a cheeky monkey then that could hardly be construed as a racist term!

As for the test series, doesnt really matter who wins the next 2, the series has been overshadowed by this incident.

Can someone tell why we received Monkey chants in India, directed towards Symonds who also is our 1st ever black player, but we have never received it before?

Was it just a coincidence? or was it racist?
