Thanjk you.

It's been a while for me and golf - stopped playing 'proper' competitive golf when i was about 20 for a number of reasons -
1) the cost shot up for my membership, from being a junior £70 ish - to being a student £150 ish to now being colt/full member £6-700 ish a year. Whilst still good value for being a member of a private club i would have to play 3-4 times a week to justify the cost/play to my ability
2)starting playing football again and found my love for football again - been a player manager for two different teams in last 5 years plus play 3/4 times a week - i am 25 going on 26 and figured i want to play as much football whilst i still can, plenty of time for golf when i can't run- i would have hated to stuck at my golf, not played football then got into my 30's and regret it
3) due to playing so much football was unable to practice enough to compete at the level i wanted too and it got frustrating - as a junior i was off about 10 when i was 15/16 - most of my mates were off 6,7,8,9,10 - at my best 17/18 i got down to 6, stopped playing less and less and my handicapped rose to 9 which is when i stopped. My mates had all carried on playing golf 3/4 times a week and all play off scratch, 1, 2,3, 4ish now and i just didn't have the time or energy to practice and compete and got frustrated - i am very competive and got fed up going round in 80-85 when my mates were shooting 70-75.
I hope to pick up it again and do miss it.
Incidentally I have Ping Irons myself - they have always made good irons - i had the equilvent for the day off what you have
I played golf as a kid and then gave up to play football but then had to give up that because of my back so I took golf up again. Trying to get down to scratch this year and then kick Bobby Fallons arse.

it's a mad cycle - i started with footbal playing under 9's 10's 11's and 12's. Started to play golf and started to get good so ****ed the footie off, went to uni and started playing footie again and again and again and golf just slipped into the background. I'd imagine once i feel my legs going and i can't play football to the level i want too or start suffering from the aches and pains as i get older i will pick up golf again. - i still play now and then or go the range, so i can still hit the ball and would feel quite confident playing regulary of say about 12ish if i put about a months practice in. Once i do decide to start properly agin tho i would expect to be playing off single figures within a season.
So what you playing off at mo pacman - were bouts u a member

I play off 4.4 at the min.
I've been lower but it's taken me a season to get back down to 4. I played much better than my handicap but just couldn't finish a round off and when I did it was usually in a match play comp or a 4bbb comp. For example we had a mini ryder cup one weekend. People born and bred on the Isle of man versus the come overs. I went round in 6 under par and had 4 birdies in a row however the next day in the montly medal I went round in 3 over having been 2 under with 5 to play.
I play on a lynx course called King Edward Bay in the isle of man.

sound similair to me in a way - i always played better than my handicap but used to blow up with a card in my hand. As a result i was always very strong in match play, mainly cause i have loads of bottle. Usually people of say 6-12 strike the ball really well but are **** round the greens, i was the other way round - i have always had a very very good short game, my chipping and putting was as good if not better than the scratch to 5 handicappers i played with/against - i was just **** off the tee
I used to frustrate the hell out of some people in match play comps - they would rip their drives 280yds down the middle, solid 2nd into the green and be say 15ft away putting for birdie, i would knock it about 30yds behind them off the tee and get my second somewhere near the green - I could almost sense them walking towards the green thinking "easy two putts and i will win this hole", then i'd chip to two foot and their arses would just go and they'd either three putt or just about two jab for a half. - After about 12 holes or more of the same, you could see them thinking to themselves "i am playing well here, ripped every drive, hit every green, yet somehow i am losing to this little *******" - then they would just fall apart and blow up
The two times that stick out when i played well with a card in my hand - as a junior when i first started i had 50!!! points in stableford
The other when i was off 10 i shot 74 in a big mens comp(it was a nett score comp) at our club and was beaten on a card playoff by some hacker off about 20 who had a next 64 but got a hole in one on our 16th wich just done me - i was so ****ing gutted, it was a massive comp - name on the board job and all that.
Talking baout it is giving me some hunger back.
Have you ever played any courses in the wirral/merseyside area - some great links - the obv choices like Royal Liverpool, Birkdale, then the likes of Hillside, Southport and Ainsdale, Wallasey(the home of stableford apparently)
