An open letter from John Thaxton to Amir Khan.

Thaxton vs. Kahn for the prestigious British Title

    · Purse bids to be held Wednesday 9th January 2008 at Midday at the British Boxing Board of Control.

    England - January 3, 2007

British Lightweight Champion Jon Thaxton says that after all the disrespectful and big talk from rival Amir Kahn he better be a man and step up and fight.

“Amir make sure your team shows up for the official purse bid on the 9th of January and let this be sorted in the good old fashion way, I know my promoter will be there ready to make this fight happen, no excuses. So for the sake of British Boxing don’t bottle it!”

“While you were busy shooting off your mouth, my promoter Mick Hennessy formally made your team a great offer of Three-Hundred Thousand Pounds for the fight. Your promoter refused the offer, saying “it was not acceptable” then a couple of days later it’s announced your fighting in my opinion, a feather fisted Dane, it’s obvious to me that someone hasn’t got confidence in your chin.”

“The British public deserve better, they deserve to see him in a real test and that’s me. Kahn has publicly stated the he wants the British Title, well I’ve got it and he has to come through me to get it!”

“ Lets give the British fans the fight they want to see, I feel our sport was almost ruined a few years back. When high profile fighters and promoters, chose to run after meaningless belts instead of pitting the best against the best. Last year our sport changed for the better I want to continue that trend in 2008, do you Amir?”

“If you find an excuse to weasel your way out of this fight, I will personally come ‘round to wherever you are and hand you the four feathers”

“So after all your bravado, you now need to put up or shut up, start walking the walk and not just talking the talk”

Jon Thaxton – British Lightweight Champion
Khan's got a big mouth and I'd bet he's got no intention of ever fighting Thaxton because he and Frank Warren both know that it'll be a tough nights work where all the hype could come undone.

Nice to see Thaxton calling him out though.

Hard to argue with what Thaxton says, he's not a great boxer but he can bang so is seemingly being avoided. Shame as I'd like to see it.

excellent, It reads as if Howard LFC wrote it
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

When Khan is ready he will put him to sleep inside 3 rounds.

Thaxton has been fighting as a Pro for over 14 years, so it is ****in plain to see all he wants is a big pay day at this stage in his career. Calling out a young fighter at the early stages of his career is just bravado and all it will do is inspire Khan to put him down like a mad dog. This fight WILL happen, but on Khan's terms, i.e. when he is ready for it - Summer or Autumn 08.

Thaxton is 33 and 7. Not the best of records in what is not one of the best fought weight divisions in Britain. Looking at his record: his last loss was against Eamonn Magee in 2002 and ever since he has fought some jokers like Viktor Baranov, Carl Allen and Christophe De Busillet. He fights in his home crowd and fair enough he has got some knockouts in his fights but when he is faced with someone who is clearly way out of his depth, he bottles it. He was comparing himself to Steve Collins- I mean, how disgraceful is that to the Irishman?

Wasn't Thaxton represented by Frank Warren before? Anyway, Khan will kill off the horrible Thaxton and kill his career. He can go and bake something for Delia.

Thaxton can call him out all he wants but he'd regret it if the fight was made. Khan would KO him and take the 'four feathers' with him back to Bolton.

I dunno if that's a compliment or a slap in the face Bazza !!

I'll take it as both - just to be safe.

it was a joke Howard, as I know how much you hate Frank Warren

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Just read an interview with Francis saying he wants Khan v Katsidis this year.

Yeah course you do, Frank, course you do.

Khan claims he offered a fight to Thaxton which was denied as Thaxton wanted more money.

Khan v Katsidis- I don't expect that to happen until next year.

There's talk of Khans next fight against the KO specialist kristjansen may be off.

                      Kristjansen has the flu apparently.

                      Perhaps Thaxton is a possibility?

Has Warren been stung by the recent criticism relating to the apparent ducking of Thaxton and the taking of the Kristjansen fight?

*cynical* Francis will make Thaxton an offer he cant refuse knowing he's been on the ale and cakes since Khan's fight against Kristjansen was announced and Khan will easily beat an under prepared Thaxton *cynical*

He'll need better prep than that. Khan will still KO him anyway.

He's very limited but he can bang a bit so could get interesting if he catchs Khan. Khan should be winning fights like this easy but I just wanna see it after all the mouthing off him and Francis have been doing.
