    Tiger Woods

I though the single greatest athlete I've ever seen was Michael Jordan.

Tiger Woods is just amazing to watch. The whole field every week knows that if he plays even 70% of his game he will beat them. We are witnessing possibly the greatest sportsman ever

He's great but it's not much of a sport though.

It's not much more than darts with a stroll thrown in.
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Yes, anything you play in pressed trousers with a nice polo shirt and perhaps a natty sweater, its hardly a sport is it?
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

met the fella at the Open when it was at Hoylake, hes friggin Huge, his forearms are massive, he can't half get some power behind that ball.

when hes playing he seems arrogant, but off the field hes a nice bloke.

He was immense yesterday. Ewan Murray called it when he said that he had absolutely every shot in the book and there is no one that is going to come anywhere near challenging him in the States.

I think that people make a good point though when they say that you can't compare him to Nicklaus. When Jack was about he had to regularly come up against the likes of Palmer, Trevino, Player etc where Woods has never really had that sort of competition, bar VJ for a few weeks about 6 years ago. The courses he plays in the US are not really much of a challenge for him either as all you really need to be able to do is bomb the ball a mile and you are home in par.

If he wants a real challenge he should come over to the European Tour for a bit. At least he would be playing on varied courses against good fields. There are some up and coming golfers on the tour, most notably Kaymer for me who will no doubt become a legend in the future. I also think McIllroy is going to be some player, as well as some seasoned pro's like Stenson, Westwood and many others that could give him a bit of a run for his money. Needless to say that is never going to happen due to the world points system and the greater wealth associated with the US PGA but its a nice thought.

Anyway he's undoubtably going to beat Jack's record, while at the same time becoming sports first billionaire. For me he deserves it. The greatest sportsman about.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Yes. Not an easy game to master. Much more than darts and it is a sport....and Woods is a legend!

Golf is not easy to master and nor is darts. Both require alot of practice and I consider both to be games rather than sports. That said the masters of both require the upmost respect for the dedication and talent they have.

I guess you could consider Woods a sportsmen as he is an athlete. It's the reason I consider him to be better than the Golden Bear, he just has that extra physical edge. It's much the same as to why most present day football teams would walk all over the teams of yester year.

But I'm sure others would argue that and nobody will ever be proved right or wrong so no point arguing!
                          Forwards.......

Got to agree, Tiger has taken the game to a whole new level. There have been a lot of really good golfers but he is trully a great, defo up there with the likes of Jack Nicklaus and I do think he will exceed the Golden Bears total of Majors, wouldn't surprise me if he does the Grand Slam of all 4 Majors this year!!!!

Tiger does stand out far above the field. I can't help but feel that he's setting himself up for a fall though talking about an unbeaten season. I expect he will win 1 major, maybe 2 this year.
