    County/Minor League Cricket

Next week sees the start of a new county season and as usual I'll be keepingaclose eye on Surrey, they have a tough first game against Lancashire at the Oval.

Who will you be following this season?

Also will any you be playing cricket this season, I am returning to a team a played for five years ago and I'm currently kitting myself out and getting used to turning my arm over again.

I'll be hoping for a long-awaited Lancashire title. Failing that I'd like Somerset to win it - I've always liked them since the days of I.T. and King Viv. I'd like to play still but am living in USA at the moment and don't have the time to go searching for a local team.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

Yeah I liked Somerset originally for the same reasons. Now I still like them as a lad I used to know growing up, Ian Blackwell, plays for them....as does (or did?) another ex-Derbyshire player, Peter Bowler.

I also like Trescothick and Langer.

But Derbyshire are my team and I'm quite excited for their chances. Jayawardene should prove a great signing.

I'm a very casual Lancashire fan, they usually play a game or two in Liverpool which is always a good day out.

FFS. 124 all out, first game.

          And this, FFS!

Derbyshire have announced that Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene will not be joining the club this season.

It was hoped the 30-year-old would arrive after the Indian Premier League ends in June but his commitments with Sri Lanka led to a change of plan.

Derbyshire's chief executive Tom Sears told BBC Radio Derby: "When we signed Mahela there was a significant window where he could come and represent us.

"But the Asia Cup has changed dates and there is an India tour of Sri Lanka."

Derbyshire had already signed Australian left-hander Chris Rogers as their back-up for Jayawardene, who is considered to be one of the best batsmen in the world.

Head of cricket John Morris said: "It is a shame that Mahela will not be coming this year but we took the sensible option of securing Chris Rogers' services some weeks ago and he will play as our overseas player.

"Chris is an outstanding player with an excellent track record in county cricket and we are delighted to have him on board for an extended spell.

"We may look to bring someone in specifically for the Twenty20 Cup or Chris may play the whole season, that is something we will decide together in the coming weeks.

"We have left things on a very positive note with Mahela and there is a strong possibility we will look at him coming to Derbyshire at some stage in the future."

Jayawardene added: "I was really looking forward to playing for Derbyshire this season and I am very disappointed that the dates did not work this time.

"I wish the club success during the coming season and hope that one day I will be able to play for them."

                I'm a Brown Cap too

I've booked my tickets for the LV Sussex game at Whitgift School and the Twenty20 game v Middlesex at The Oval.

Twenty20 on a friday night, plastic beer glass stacking competitions and the stewards running around like headless chickens. Good times

I always keep an eye out for Gloucestershire's results...And always go to the games when they come to Cheltenham for 2 weeks to play here. Last year it was cancelled due to the floods and no water

Can't wait for this year!! Gerrin pissed then playing cricket on the pitch and having officials telling you to stay of the square

Enjoy your game, Tim! Cricket is a simple game

Simple but I ****ed it up.

Made 2 with the bat, alothough, I'm a solid number 11 and I went for about 12 off 3 overs.

Oh and I dropped a diving catch, good attempt but would have redemed my poor bowling if I'd have held it.

We lost BTW, by 5 wickets.
