May I also add that I'm delighted to see Darren Clarke back and playing well at the Ryder Cup. If anyone in the world of golf deserves success it's him. He's a top guy and a top player. It can't have been easy for him to deal with what he's had to in recent years.

For what it's worth I think that the picks were obvious as well but Woosnam could easily have bottled it in favour of Bjorn who was above Lee Westwood in the order of merit. At least he did the right thing.

Played it for the first time with some guys from work and some asshole got stroppy with us because we weren't following the rules, like not raking footprints in a bunker that looked like a coach party had walked through it. The whole environment seems slightly prone to elitism/racism etc. with a little bit of sexism thrown in. Good old-fashioned British values from the 30s. Ditto tennis clubs. (Yes, I know they're called rackets. )

That is the one thing I don't really like about it. Golf has opened up in the last fifteen years and become popular with people from all kinds of backgrounds, but there are still some elitist and even racist clubs out there.
