Collingwood can't be relied upon when the team really needs him. When it's tight, when the conditions favour the bowlers and the wickets are tumbling, Collingwood's technique will let him down.
When the bowlers have toiled all day for no reward on a flat pitch, Collingwood can get a few runs by punishing wayward bowling.

    He's a poor man's Jonty Rhodes

          I kind of agree.

One of the things that changed after England won the Ashes was that Collingwood came into the side after never really featuring previously. As a fielder he's top class but I've never really felt he was a top drawer batsman. He's like the Kuyt of cricket

He works hard and it's a good system for him in the ODI side because he pushes a lot of one's and two's to keep the score ticking over.

But a Test number 5? No way. It's time we had a look at someone else because this side, even with Flintoff won't win the Ashes next year.

          Shah maybe?

I think the batting needs a shake up anyway - Collingwood would be the obvious victim if a fit and in-form Flintoff came back into the side. For me the batsmen knocking on the door are Shah, Bopara (huge score the other day) and Blob Key.

NZ 73-5 all the wickets for Anderson. looking good for us at the minute. New Zealand are however clearly **** and if we don't sort the batting out South Africa are going to teach us a real lesson. Still we have some how managed to make this series a thrilling spectacle so maybe anything is possible.

I don't know whether Flintoff will get back in to be honest.

Rob Key's done well, and he's got a Test double hundred Shaggy

Shah and Bopara are the obvious lads knocking on the door. Bit early in the season to tell who's in form but Ramprakash deserves a mention IMO

In an age where we can communicate instantly, it takes only four days for a cheque to clear and even fredo is allowed to hang around annoying people without being banned then is it really beyond the wit of humanity to devise a way where they can play test cricket even when it gets a bit dark?
                        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
