    MGM Grand Garden Arena, Nevada

The fight game can get very personal and the war of words between UFC Lightweight Champion "THE PRODIGY" BJ PENN and former champ SEAN "THE MUSCLE SHARK" SHERK has taken personal to a whole new level. The talking stops and the real competition begins as these two men step into the Octagon to determine the undisputed king of the 155-lb. division.

Plus, the controversial "HUNTINGTON BEACH BAD BOY" TITO ORTIZ faces undefeated Karate master LYOTO "THE DRAGON" MACHIDA.
the main even bj vs sherk should be a good fight,no love loss there,bj hates sherk for being a drugg cheat and sherk hates bj cause hes got the title sherk never lost, but for me the fight of the night is ortiz vs lyoto, ortiz has been out for ages and last i seen of him he was on some american program in a suit were as lyoto in his last ppv was in devistating form, the kid can stand and fight has good ground and pound and can submit you in the blink of an eye...

thats my pick for fight of the night and cant wait for this ppv....

look out for Michael Bisping Vs. Jason Day on ufc 85, 02 arena Jun-7-2008

Can't wait for this one, some potentially great fights on the card. Silva v Jardine won't be for the weak hearted IMO

Ortiz think he's going to walk through Machida but his unusual style makes it very hard to find sparring partners to prepare for him. Machida is the only succesfull MMA fighter to use Karate as his stand up art.

I've just read that Mark Coleman has pulled out of his fight with Brock Lesner at UFC 87 due to a knee injury. Shame, it would've been cool to see another hall of famer back in the octagon.

Penn v Sherk should be boss and also reckon we'll see the real Wanderli Silva this time

Actually looking forward to seeing Rameau Sokoudjou as well, he looked impressive until he got choked out last time out, also Thiago Silva

Not sure what to expect from Tito as isn't this his last fight?

Moving forward a few events to UFC87 - Roger Huerta v Kenny Florian is going to be a cracking fight

What a performance from Penn, the chap is a stud and so well rounded. what a knee to the head to finish off Sherk. Am delighted he beat him, nice to see a man with skill winning the fight rather than the cardio muscular guy.
Again excellent knee to to head, will watch that a few more times I imagine in the future.

Was great to see silva get in close on top of Jardine, I honestly thought Jardine could give Silva some real problems, but once Silva connected at all, he was all over Jardine and stopped him ruthlessly. A great performance from silva. but I feel his real division is Middleweight where he could really dominate, or maybe Anderson Silva would have a thing or two to say about that......

Ortiz V Machida wasnt a great fight, Machida is effective, but its not good viewing to see him backing off all the time, he shows some good technique though and is unorthodox, would like to see him engage more though, can't say I am surprised with his success, especially when he is training with Nouiguera and Anderson Silva, he couldn't have better training partners.

A few other good performances on the night, wasn't impressed by the Croatian though, despite his knock-out win, hate seeing people defending punches like he did. He was almost running away at times.

I heard Joe Rogan say Kenny Florian is going to fight Roger Huerta in his next fight, that fight could be fight of the year.
I seen Florian's last fight and he was immense, he has found new heart and has taken his aggression and training to another level, will give Huerta a stiff challenge. Huerta is Huerta, also well rounded and will provide a top class challenge to Florian. should be good action in that fight.

all in all, a good night of fighting and some nice explosive finishes. We will be spoiled with UFC events coming up over the next while, there is an event every two week for the next couple of months.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                  Great summary Baz

Thought the same about the Croatian but he has some power in his kicks. Wanderlei Silva looked pumped and was pleased he got back to winning ways & like Thiago Silva more and more each time I see him.

Brazilian lad who made his debut against Ivan Salvery (sp?) looked excellent, huge physique and lightening fast. Knockout of the night went to the "filler" fight they showed - no idea who either of them were but a single punch knockout in the first minute which nearly took the guy's head off

Penn was awesome, thought Sherk would put it up to him more but that fight showed more than any I've ever seen how effective the jab can be. Sherk looked like he'd been run over by a bus after the fight, Penn looked like he was only on his way to the ring!!! Good to see them "make up" after a lot of mouthing off before the fight

Yeah, posted about Florian v Huerta few days ago - gonna be an excellent fight. Was never a big fan of Florian but he has been brilliant in his last couple of fights - always liked Huerta .. looking forward to this

Some good points there too mate

The Croat Goran Reljic had some powerful kicks, easy to see the influence of Mirko CroCop right there. Maybe he was a nervous wreck in his first fight in the Octagon, which is always difficult with the extra energy dump with the nerves etc. But overall, I thought his knockout was lucky and wasn't particularly a great connection, was surprised to see Gouveia go down the way he did.

Speaking about Debuts, there were some great debuts in the events, plenty to get excited about in terms of future action, I would like to see the UFC trying some PRIDE type events though, I don't like the way they can hand pick fights every time and personality clashes with the owners can determine a fighters future. Arlovski for example has been treated terribly and it is a shame to see Ortiz gone.

Sherk, I was shocked that he only attempted one serious take down that I can remember, I know Penn is hard to take down and all, but Sherk's game plan was all wrong. I honestly thought Penn would tire quicker on the ground and Sherk choose to stand with the better stand up fighter. Not that I am complaining.

As for the winner of Huerta V Florian, I hope to see them facing off against Penn, but that is a fight that possibly wouldnt happen till maybe December of this year if at all depending if Penn has another fight scheduled or not.
Would be interesting to see Penn fighting GSP again, I think GSP has gone to another level since his split decision against Penn though and GSP would win again, fair play to Penn though, he is not hiding and wants to fight the best to make himself a legend.

No arguement there, I didn't like the way he seemed to cower away once the punches were thrown, I liked the unorthodox way he tied Gouveia up though by literally jumping on him and wrapping himself around him when the first punches started coming

Don't know much about the way Arlovski has been treated so might be wrong, thought I heard that he rejected a new contract offer as he wanted to be on a par with the best paid in the UFC ie Chuck? I always liked Arlovski but have to be honest, he hasn't impressed in his last few fights which made his demands unrealistic if true. Regarding Tito, I took his post fight interview as a plea to the UFC to offer him a new deal. Like the Pitbull, I always liked Tito and thought he had all the raw materials to be a top dog but he's been very poor in his last several fights and didn't seem capable / motivated to go out on a high which was a shame

Same here, was pleased to see Benn win - heard 2 facts about Sherk which surprised me during commentry last night 1) he had taken a lie detector test to confirm his innocence & passed & 2) he has never knocked out an opponent despite being such an aggressive puncher

As for the winner of Huerta V Florian, I hope to see them facing off against Penn, but that is a fight that possibly wouldnt happen till maybe December of this year if at all depending if Penn has another fight scheduled or not.

To be fair - after a number of very disappointing events the UFC seems to have really got their house in order and it has been a lot more entertaining & main events seem more regular too - long may it continue

Machida is quickly becoming my favorite fighter to watch. I find him completely compelling - technically awesome, evasive and just generally brilliant.

I can see why some find him boring to watch, but to me watching him clincally dismantle opponents in the way he does is just great.

I think what I am getting at here is, I don't like the way the UFC are trying to change the face of MMA although it is good to see the majority of the top MMA fighters in the one competition.
The UFC is all about revenue, it is as simple as that. So they want standup exciting fights most of the time. When they do not get it, they get very annoyed and could well drop a fighter over a boring fight. that is the impression I got with Arlovski. They let his contract run out, I will admit, I have not looked into his contract demands, but considering he was arguably the most feared fighter in all of the UFC at one stage and still a huge prospect as he is still young as fighters go. Was it that unreasonable to ask to be paid on a par with the other top fighters in the UFC? I don't think so myself.
Regarding Ortiz, I think last night when he refused to say he would not fight again in the UFC he was leaving the door open for an invite back at some stage. I agree, his last couple of fights he was average and not the Ortiz we were used to, I don't think I have seen a really motivated Ortiz since the Shamrock Saga. I guess you can loose some motivation when you have been around as long as he has. He also needs to improve his all round ability.
I am not sure exactly what his problem is with Dana White, but to be honest, there is too much of that kinda crap in the UFC, I don't like the way the organization controls the fighters and you have to keep kissing the UFC's ass.
The Ultimate Fighter, although I enjoy watching the TV show and try never to miss an episode. There are fighters there that get to jump the queue because they were on a reality TV show. The UFC fell out with Nick Diaz over his comments about this, (before he got cought smoking dope).
While the UFC does seem to be getting more exciting, I would love to see them review their whole operation, to make it more appealing to the fighters and the fight fans. I do love watching the UFC and all, but still I think the connoisseurs of MMA feel the UFC are not paying enough respect to MMA, but merely milking it for all it is worth.

I agree mate, he is a breath of fresh air, even if it does get a little boring at times. MMA is about different styles would like to see more action from him, but if that is his style, so be it, it is effective and it works.

I'm not a life long MMA fan & so have probably been "duped" by what UFC has to offer as only got hooked a couple of years ago - it probably is the commercial side of MMA and like many other sports the grass roots levels probably have a lot more to offer than it currently is being seen to have

You mentioned Nick Diaz, have to say I love his fights and more recently his little cosky **** of a brother - Nate. Did you see his last fight when he pulled the win out of nowhere - he locked ina choke & he was lying on his back giving the fingers, flexing his muscles and celebrating - all before his Pellegrino had even tapped. Totally disrespectful but something different
