    Darren Clarke

how he managed to speak to the tv cameras coming off the 16th today god only knows. I sat there with tears running down my cheeks........

Sometimes sport catches a moment which makes the sport itself insignificant. Today was one of those days.

Huge respect also to Woods and Lehman for the way they congratulated Clarke.

IMO Darren Clarke outshone the Ryder Cup today and I have nothing but admiration and respect for the bloke.

I must admit that I felt quite emotional after he finshed his match with Zak Johnson. You'd have to have a heart of stone to have felt nothing.

Darren Clarke is a top guy and a great golfer.

He is without a shadow of a doubt my favourite golfer. I've enjoyed watching him down the years and in recent years he has shown great strengeth of character to deal with what he's had to.

Today was like an emotional relief for him because I'm sure he wanted to win the Ryder Cup in memeory of his wife Heather. He did her and his two sons proud.

      P.S.

That moment today will go down in history. People will be talking about it for years to come.

Have to admit too that I also shed a tear. What a tournament! It's a shame Darren didn't get the winning putt as that would have been fairytale stuff. But with what that guy's been though, to go to the KClub and play like he did. Total respect.

What I liked most about the tournament however, wasn't just the quality of the golf, which was outstanding, but the spirit in which it was played. The yanks were truely gracious in defeat and it just shows you you can have a really competitive game without the agressive. moaning bull$hit that often surrounds a good ar$e kicking.

EPL managers, esp Roeder, take note.

Had tears in my eyes too, but like a proper hard **** I kept them there. None of this streaming down the cheeks nonsense.

I watched a bit of the highlights on BBC2 later and saw an interview Clarkey gave with his best mate Lee Westwood. Anyone see that? Westwood was asked for his thoughts on Clarke’s bravery and performance, and Lee, totally choked, said “I can hardly talk…..” and promptly broke down. Clarke took over and gave the rest of the interview.

Westwood wasn’t crying cos of the win, he was crying for Clarke, like the rest of us, yet Clarke picked up the baton and finished the interview for him. While all around him lost it, Clarke remained (relatively) stoic. LEGEND.

would you be quite so hard if a golf ball ****ted a cat in the head, killing it instantly?

I also shed a few tears when Clarke won his match and the hugging and interviews afterwards.

So pleased for him, Woosie and the rest of the team for the win.

Darren Clarke for Sports Personality of the Year me thinks!

My twin seven year olds came into the room and asked me why Clarke was crying when he won. I gruffly told them - "I'll tell you later". Sometimes its hard to be a real man.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.
