Depends which Fed turns up...the one that dismanteled Ancic was awesome, hitting his backhand down the line with such fluidity, and finding angels that just took the breath away.
Nadal has an incredible baseline game, but that alone won't help him beat Federer, not on grass, cos he won't be able to scramble everything back like he normally does.
If they both get through, it could be a great final.

Ancic was not a his best I should say, but neither was Murray who was atrociously poor.Originally posted by Scratch View PostDepends which Fed turns up...the one that dismanteled Ancic was awesome, hitting his backhand down the line with such fluidity, and finding angels that just took the breath away.

Federer is the better player, there's no doubt about that. Nadal is all about power and stamina, with an incredible and insatiable desire to save every ball. He's been getting the better over Fed because psychologically he has the edge, and he's better suited to slower surfaces.
And the Wimbledon grass has been getting slower and slower, which has allowed Nadal to come close every year. That's why I think Fed may have right scrape to win this one. But if he's at his brilliant best, I can't think anyone could stop him.

He's had the better over Fed cos his game is all about clay, and Fed's is more rounded...excellent on grass, superb on hardcourts, brilliant on clay...but not brilliant enough when it's Rafa down the other end.
Rafa is beatable on any surface apart from clay, as proved by their head to head record...as number 1 and 2 seeds, they will only ever meet in the final at any event. The problem there is that Rafa doesn't reach these finals very often, except on clay, as he is capable of being beaten by anyone in the top 10 on other surfaces.
Head to Head, it's Federer 4 - 9 Nadal.
But take out the clay court victories and it becomes Federer 3 - 1 Nadal. Shows how many non-clay court finals Rafa has reached though, in comparison to clay.
Course, stats prove nothing. But it does give a perspective on Rafa's perceived hold over Fed.

Well Murray didn't do all the things we said he would have to - i.e. get off to a good start, serve well, come to the net, don't stay at the back of the court trading blows with Nadal etc
He made it too easy for Nadal and looked slow and sluggish. Still he has made progress this Wimbledon but last night showed just how far he has to go.
Women's semis today. Looks like a Williams sisters final where they don't try against each other that hard again this year - yawn.
Come on Dementieva!
