Grass is grass. Now the grass is resembling clay courts. It's unfair.

Nadal is a specialist clay courter. Credit to him his service game has improved ten folds and has allowed him to have a shot at Wimbledon, but there's no way at all he could have coped with the Sampras and Federer's of this world if the surface was quicker.

Service & volley is quick and in a way is 'boring'. But that's the nature of a true 'grass' tournament. Wimbledon isn't anymore, sorry.

What an absolutely incredible match and a great way to end Wimbledon for another year. I wanted Roger to win but fair play to Nadal as he was awesome. He moves round the court better than anyone I've ever seen and was reaching balls that would have won Federer points against any other player in the world. Personally I still prefer Federer's style of play to Nadal's and he had numerous break points but only took one, but Nadal's forehand and will to win are just amazing.

It was a privelage to watch two top players at the peak of their powers slug it out and still be so professional and courteous to each other at the end. The respect was there for all to see. Some other sports could learn from that. Roll on 2009.

Actually I find incredibly long baseline rallies on clay quite boring.

Not disrespecting Nadal at all, he's a great player and fighter, but Federer is the better talent no doubt.
Yes the ball zips and skids of the turf at Forest Hills. This is what playing on grass is all about.........unpredictability and the skill to play on these real surfaces, not some boring clay surface

It's the height at which the ball rebounds that is a problem to Federer. It's really difficult to control and attack with these kind of balls and it's the same tactics being employed by Nadal, with his high topspin. This Wimbledon grass just allows for the ball to rebound as much as a clay court surface. (Ok not as much but you get my point)

I get your drift fredo and fully agree

Clay courts are for people who cant afford grass

actually its not. It is all down to the new balls apparently. to identical hit serves by fed in 2003 and now show that the new balls travels slower and bounces higher although i aint a tennis expert....so the grass might ave somehting to do with it!!

Yeah i saw that, its a bit of a micture, the grass is cut shorter but its also a different type of grss that they use to have.

Surely its better for nadal because it responds more like a clay surface, take nothing away from him though, fantastic final! Olympics should be good, hopefully Federer can do well there and the US Grand slam!

The performance Federer produced just showed how great a Chmapion he is and Nadal really won it the hardest way possible - it was like Federer just could not relinquish his title but in the end he just could not match the energy and consistency of Nadal and was forced into submission almost.

An amazing final - the best I have ever witnessed.

Great final, fantastic effort and match by the 2 of them.

Oddly, and i wont make a habit of it, I agree with fredos comments re: the grass.

Great for spectacle yes, but FFS, there's no way a spanish clay court player would have won a match such as that.

Gutted Fed didn't win last night.

The biggest problem for Nadal in years to come may not be from Federer but from injuries. His style of play is all action and uses power and controlled aggression and it's bound to take a toll on his body. He already has a problem with his knees it seems. Hewitt plays a similar style, although nowhere near as effectively or blessed with as much talent as Nadal, but it has taken it's toll on hs body. It will be interesting to see if Nadal's style causes a lot of wear and tear on his body.

what a game, simply the greatest match I have ever seen in my life. Both of them played tennis from another planet, the levels reached were far beyond anything other could even dream about.
This match really was history in the making and is laready one to tell your grandkids about. What worthy champions both are.
