So Riccardo Rocco has been taken for EPO use as well. The entire Saunier Duval team failed to start today.
Looks like the Tour organizers are better at testing than the UCI.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Also explains how at the Giro he was able to blow the likes of Contador who is a proven climber and Tour winner clean of his wheel.

I must admit that I found it extremely strange that the guy was able to pretty much go from a track stand off on a hill to being flat out in a matter of seconds. I guess he is more like his hero than anyone thought. Cocaine problem next?

At least the authorities are trying to clean the sport up. Makes a mockery of the expulsion of Astana now though.

I think Astana's exclusion was at least partly to do with the war between ASO and the UCI.

I am not in the least bit surprised about Ricco. Who was responsible for granting him a medical certificate for his so-called naturally high haematocrit level? Oh yeah, the UCI.

The way I see ASO will win this war in the end.
The Tour is by far the biggest race, ASO also organize a lot of the other big races (tour L Àvenir, Paris-nice, Paris-Roubaix, LA Fleche Wallone, etc)
As long as they choose the teams that can start these races the teams has to follow the ASO rules. The Pro-Tour is allready a joke, and if you want to start in any of the ASO races you stay of the drugs.
Basically money talks, and for a change the people that sits on the money are making the right moves IMO.

No doubt that ASO will win out in the end. They own 49% of the Vuelta now as well and its clear that only there testing appears to work.

The ProTour is pretty much dead as a vote on tuesday from all the teams voted against the participation next year.

I know every year it seems that Le Tour is ruined by drug problems, but I personally see it as a sport that is actively trying to prevent wrong doing and cheating. They could easily go a whole tour without any drug problems but they are choosing to rid the sport.

                I agree.

ASO has already won, whatever McQuaid might say.

                    FAO Morten:

Cavendish on his own has won more stages than the whole of Norway.

A great line from James Richardson yesterday:

When will Cadel Evans test positive for helium?

My guess Cavendish will win even more stages this year.
He looks very strong, and as Hushovd is sick one of his main rivals are more or less out of it.

                          Reuters
                          Friday July 18 2008

NIMES, France, July 18 (Reuters) - Italians Leonardo Piepoli and Riccardo Ricco were kicked out of the Saunier Duval team for "doping practices", the team said on Friday.
"(Team manager) Mauro Gianetti has lost faith in them and he decided to fire them from the team," David Garcia, a spokesman for Saunier Duval, told Reuters.
"They have been fired for doping practices."
So will Piepoli be stripped of his stage win?

I won some money on the Ricco stage win. Wonder if the win still stands.
