The cheats have truly soiled a great sport, so that the clean athletes suffer..... even when they win, Shame.
Yes me too. Although I was really happy to hear that Phelps and Bolt were both drug tested (not because I think they cheated but because their achievements are genuine).

The Hackett 1500m swim was amazing and he nearly did it but fair play to the Tunisian. He just ****ing went for it and Hackett didn't realise. Another length and I think Hackett could have done it.

The sailing was pretty ****ed up though. How many capsizes?!

Australia looking good on 11 gold medals

The Tunisian was banned for a year previously for taking stimulants. He has just returned to competition. Personally I feel that anybody found guilty of cheating should not be allowed to compete at the Olympics ever again But I also believe that allowing professional athletes like Nadal and the footballers is a joke - I guess I'm old school, bcause it's very difficult these days to find a Non Professional athlete

It was a fix. UEFA set it all up. Did you see the way he slowed just so Johnson could be right?

I know what you mean. When Phelps got his eighth gold, I suggested that it couldn't be official for about 8 years when they'd be certain nobody had cheated.

What a huge blow the loss of Liu Xiang is to the Olympics. He was the centrepiece for the host nation and the splendour of the whole 2 weeks has been diminished by his absence. A real shame.

A shame yes but supposedly he's been injured for ages and was always struggling to make it.

As for Team GB, been going surprisingly well and perhaps could have gone even better, I was a little disappointed by the rowers as a lot of them had been talked up as gold medal possibilities so to get only 2 seems a bit low.

The cyclists have been superb. I watched an interview where Chris Boardman seemed to have a dig at the athletics lot because the cyclists approach is that they find invididuals capable of winning medals then devote everything to giving them the best possible chance of doing so. The athletes meanwhile generally get plenty of attention and funding when only a fraction of them have any realistic hope of getting a medal - for example taking multiple athletes to the finals for certain events and then only one (or none) even getting to a final.

Yes, I read somewhere that its our biggest haul of golds since 1920. A few more to come hopefully.

I guess that is an athlete prepares and works towards events like these then they should be allowed. Footballers and tennis players are in it for individual gain and therefore shouldn't be allowed.

Then again that can be said for Basketball, Hockey and Water Polo. How about Olympic Gladiators to spice things up?

You can see Hackett was really disappointed with that result and I would be privately skeptical of the result.

If you **** up like that then you should be subject to a test after every event you enter. In fact why not test everybody anyway?

More potential cycling golds to come today. Wish I'd taken the day off.

Ireland has just won it's first medal of the games

Paddy Barnes has secured at least a bronze medal after beating Lukasz Maszczyk 11-5 in the light-flyweight quarter-final.

Has anyone prepared a medals table based on medals in relation to population? The Aussies would top it but I reckon Britain would be 2nd too. The lottery money really has been put to good use

Bolt strolls the second 100m of his semi-final like a man running for a bus but not wanting to make it look like he's running too fast in case he misses it and looks stupid. If you know what I mean. The time 20.09, still no-one really knows whether he's capable of beating Michael Johnson's 200m world record or not.
