Powell, Bolt and Gay to finally race each other on Friday

Olympic 100m champion and world record holder Usain Bolt will compete against Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay at the Van Damme Memorial in Belgium on Friday.

Powell ran the second-quickest 100m time ever on Tuesday and between them, the three men have the 10 fastest times ever run at the distance.

"This has never happened before," said Brussels meet organizer Wilfried Meert.

"It's my last race of the season and I'm going out there to compete at my best," said Jamaican Bolt.

Bolt, who won the 100m in 9.69 seconds in Beijing, the 200m in a world record 19.30 seconds and the 4x100m relay also, added: "Now there will be more pressure for me, but I will do my best."

    FASTEST 100m TIMES EVER
    9.69: Usain Bolt
    9.72: Asafa Powell, Usain Bolt
    9.74: Asafa Powell
    9.76: Usain Bolt
9.77: Asafa Powell x3, Tyson Gay
    9.78: Asafa Powell
American Gay, who failed to make the 100m final in Beijing because of a troublesome hamstring injury, does not believe he is quite ready to beat Bolt and Powell.

"I don't think I am as sharp right now, considering my leg, to be very, very, competitive with those guys," he said.

Bolt and Powell could both chase the world record, which Bolt set in the Olympic final despite slowing down to celebrate his victory before the end of the race.

But the weather could limit their chances, with Friday downpours expected along with cool temperatures.

"It will all depend on the weather and it doesn't look too good," said Meert. "It will be very difficult for the athletes that come out of the heat of Beijing."

That is going to be ****ing awesome. Hope it's on the telly. Bet it's not though - even 'The Weltklasse' in Zurich last week wasn't on live anywhere.

It was show in Norway live, all of the golden league events are shown here

Bolt won the 100 metres, he had a very poor start by his standards. He hit the front just after 65 metres and then won easily, cruising the last 10 metres

I remember when all the big weekly meets - Zurich, Lausanne, Stockholm, Crystal Palace etc - were shown live on ITV, usually on Friday nights. Alan Parry commentating! Ah the good old days. Linford. Regis. Akabusi. Oh Busi! Butch Reynolds. Cram. Peter Elliott. Tony Jarrett. Jackson. McColgan. Tom McKean . Yvonne Murray ....good old gallant loser Yvonne. It wasn't a major event unless Murray trailed home in about 12th, crying.

Zurich re-runs were shown on Setanta over the weekend. Saw Bolt then. Hope we get more than that.

Shaggy once saw her giving herself head while on a school trip, although I might be getting her confused with someone else

Looks like Curtis Robb behind him

Just looked at McKean's Wiki page - his PB was 1.43. Impressive. Also he is now a copper with Strathclyde Police

That's pretty good for Tom - I vaguely remember streaks.

God those were the days "The Dream Mile" in Oslo and Cram steaming down the back straight, and my Dad coming in from the pub after nipping to the chippy with Breaded fish and two lots of chips.

                    Happy days.

                      Happy days indeed.

And McKean did most definitely sport blonde streaks/highlights most of the time.

Were you a Cram or Coe man? Or Ovett? Or Elliott or McKean in fact?

I was a Cram man. Hated Coe and didn't mind Ovett. I remember Ovett collapsing and being carried off. I think I thought he was going to die.

Cram was ace except for his pathetic head-wobble when he was in trouble. When the head started to wobble you knew he was spent.

I was a Cram man and gutted that his good years were never Olympic years! Although I did like Coe too but Ovett just really scared me to be honest, seriously ugly man

When Cram was in trouble it looked like he was going backwards, he'd look to be trying even harder yet going slower!!

As for McKean I always thought we was rubbish, just fluked the odd 800m, everyone knows the business end of middle distance is the mile and the 1500m

McKean was a very good 800m runner. One time European champion and a PB of 1.43. Inconsistent though. Always thought the blue riband was the 1500m but really it only shaded the 800m in terms of prestige, for me.

Stop sticking up for McKean he was a poor mans Ovett

The Dream Mile used to be the event bar the Olympics; my dad was a very good county middle distance runner and still was an excellent runner when I was young, I used to think he could and should have been there!

Yeah the Dream Mile was ace but 1600m isn't a recognised Olympic distance and it was a just an exciting one-off.

                                Yeah I know, sadly.

The 800m always felt like a glorified sprint, not much tactics involved compared to the 1500m....

The best 1500m were cat and mouse until Cram would turn the screw from 600m out.
