Amir Khan's rematch with Lamont Peterson has been called off after the American champion's failed drugs test.
    bbc
Both fighters agreed to random testing before their 19 May light-welterweight bout in Las Vegas, and Peterson tested positive for synthetic testosterone.

Peterson subsequently gave a negative test and his camp were appealing to the Nevada Athletics Commission.

"The fight is off! Sorry everyone the only person to blame is @kingpete26 [Peterson]," tweeted Khan on Wednesday.
"I'll be looking for a opponent to fight June 30th."
A statement on the Golden Boy Promotions website confirmed the fight has been called off.

It read: "A failed pre-fight drug test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), coupled with the Nevada State Athletic Commission's (NSAC) legal inability to hold a formal hearing on the matter of licensing Lamont Peterson for his Saturday, May 19 rematch against Amir Khan until Tuesday, May 15, has forced the cancellation of the event."

Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer confirmed earlier this week that Peterson tested positive from the A and B samples taken in March, but gave a negative test in follow-up samples from 13 April.

A statement from Peterson's camp said they would submit medical findings to the commission "reflecting the facts in support of Lamont's good faith intentions" in the hope of securing the licence needed to fight in Nevada.

The fighters were due to meet for a second time on 19 May after the World Boxing Association ordered a rematch following Peterson's controversial victory over Khan on 10 December.

The WBA claimed there were "multiple irregularities" in the first fight after Khan appealed against the points defeat, which took place in Peterson's home town of Washington DC.

Bet he gets the belt awarded back to him.

He should do, Peterson's admitted that he took the drugs a month before his fight with Khan. The result of that match should therefore be void and Khan should get his titles back.

I take it this is a performance enhancing drug? Peterson was relentless in that first fight....might explain it.

I'd be surprised if Khan get's his belts back. There's no sanctioning fee's for the alphabets if that happens.

Amir Khan says he will fight WBC light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia in Las Vegas on 14 July.
Khan, 25, was originally scheduled to face Lamont Peterson earlier this month in a rematch for the WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles.
However, that bout was cancelled after the latter tested positive for elevated testosterone levels.
That left Khan looking for another opponent and he tweeted: "May the best man win on 14 July. Khan vs Garcia."

Garcia, 24, is undefeated, with 23 wins including 14 knockouts.
"I feel like this is how it's supposed to be: the best versus the best, both of us in our prime and giving the fans a great fight," Garcia told www.espn.com.

"I'm just happy - I feel like I have what it takes to beat this guy.
"I've watched Khan a lot. He's a good fighter, but I don't think he's what people say he is, getting all this credit.
"I feel like he will leave himself open for some big shots and we'll see if he can take them. I can box and I can punch. I'm going to hit him with stuff he won't see. I can't wait."

Garcia recently secured the vacant WBC light-welterweight title with victory by a unanimous decision over Mexican legend Erik Morales, who had been stripped of the belt for failing to make the weight.
It is not yet clear what titles, if any, will be at stake between Garcia and Khan.
Khan's promoters, Golden Boy, is trying to have the result of the Peterson-Khan fight from December overturned to a no decision and the WBA and IBF belts returned to Khan.

However Garcia tweeted on 19 May: "If he [Khan] doesn't get his belts back, we can't fight. A unification bout is the only fight that can not let me fight my mandatory."

Garcia is due for a mandatory defence against Ajose Olusegun but, should Khan be given one or both belts back, the WBC would sanction Garcia-Khan because unification bouts take precedence over mandatory fights.

Amir Khan has had his WBA light-welterweight belt reinstated by the governing body and will put it on the line when he fights WBC champion Danny Garcia in Las Vegas on Saturday.
The Briton lost his WBA and IBF belts to Lamont Peterson in December in controversial circumstances.

A scheduled rematch was cancelled when Peterson failed a drugs test.
"Justice has been done," Khan said. "It means this fight (against Garcia) will show who is the best in the division."
Khan appealed following the points defeat against Peterson, with the WBA saying there were "multiple irregularities" in the fight.

The Bolton-born boxer said: "I'm glad the WBA are reinstating me as champion; it means I walk into this fight as world champion.

"There is a chance to win the WBC belt as well but not only that, the Ring magazine title will be on the line.
"There are five main belts in this division and if I win this fight, I will have won four of them.
"The only one I have not won is the WBO one, but I tried to fight Tim Bradley for that and he turned me down.

"If I win against Garcia, it means I have done everything I want to do in this division."
It adds extra importance to the light-welterweight title fight against Garcia, which Khan claims easily eclipses David Haye's heavyweight clash with Dereck Chisora in London on the same night.

The Haye-Chisora bout has attracted a lot of interest following their much-publicised brawl in Munich in February.

"Boxing fans know my fight is bigger," Khan told BBC Radio 5 live Breakfast. "There's a world title on the line."

Former WBA world heavyweight champion Haye has come out of retirement to fight Chisora at Upton Park in a meeting arranged after the pair brawled in a media conference following Chisora's loss to WBC champion Vitali Kitchsko.

Chisora was subsequently suspended by British boxing authorities and the feud continued to attracted attention when the British Boxing Board of Control refused to sanction the fight.
The contest is expected to attract a crowd of more than 28,000, but Khan has played down its significance.

"David is a friend of mine but the fight is not a big fight," he said. "There are no titles on the line and I don't think Chisora is in the top 10 in the world.

"I'm in the capital of boxing in Las Vegas. It makes my fight a lot bigger. And the guy I'm fighting Danny Garcia is in the top 10 in the world."

Khan has spoken of his confidence ahead of facing Garcia, something he puts down to a new training regime.
The Bolton-fighter has enlisted the services of strength and conditioning coach Ruben Tabares, who has introduced some unusual practices into Khan's preparations.

"He's made me change to a non-fluoride toothpaste because apparently fluoride is really dangerous, contains rat poison or something and can even kill you," Khan explained.

"I'm one of those guys who listens to what my trainers tell me - even if it sounds a little bit strange sometimes - and I do it anyway."

One belt for each weight, it would cut out all the dodgy promoters just trying to make money hand over fist.

It will never happen though because of said promoters

I think Khan will blow Garcia out of the water on Saturday night. Watching Garcia sparring he just looked too slow and predictable, a perfect opponent for Khan's style.

Khan can stop him within 4 rounds IMO.

Both Haye and Khan will be over within 4 I think. Chisora will walk onto the end of a big punch, and Khan will just out box Garcia.

I think the Chisora fight will be an embarrasment. think Haye will finish it inside 2.

They shoud have Fraudley and Tyson Fury on standby. I reckon Haye could take all three on in one night.
