I think you'll find Sachin is the modern day equivelant of Bradman.
YOu just cant compare the 2 IMHO. Completely different times, teams were not as strong as they are now, bowlers didnt have the skills and tricks which they have now (imagine Bradman facing a doosra! or delaing with reverse swing)

Sachin has gone on to be the top scorer in the short form of the game and is just 15 runs short of being the highest ever test scorer. In fact, if I can find the quote, I'm certain Bradman endorsed Sachin as the best/personal favourite batsman of the modern era.

You're being RIDICULOUSLY unfair on Bradman.

Players are protected to an unprecedented degree these days, not only by equipment and laws of the game, but also by conditions.

Bradman had to deal with bodyline, which was legal in those days, with no helmets. Bradman played on UNCOVERED pitches. FFS that's a massive leap just there. Cricket is 10 times easier to play these days than in the past.

It's a lot easier to become the highest test aggregate scorer when you start international cricket aged 16 and play well into your late 30's especially with the modern cricket calendar.
Sachin's eventual record will probably be broken one day, simply because the game will continue to be easier to bat in and they will play more and more international cricket.
When Bradman had to come over for the Ashes, they spent 3 months on the bloody ship.

Test Averages is the nearest fair comparrison for batsmen, it's still not fair because it is SO much easier to bat these days, but despite that Bradman is in a different galaxy to the rest of the world. He's not just the best, he is best by a ridiculous degree.

I agree that comparrison is nigh on impossible, but if you want to pick out "THE GREATEST" there is no argument against Bradman IMO

I completely agree with that, they are probably(having never seen DB bat) very similar in style, mostly due to their body habitus. If you are that shape/size then it stands to reason there will be an optimum way of batting and these 2 are probably very similar for that reason.
Sachin may very well be the greatest of his era (close call between him and Lara for me but it's debatable).
But the greatest of all time? They would have to challenge DB's average to be considered IMO

true, Bradmans average is just extraoridnary, I understand he hit 300 in a day at headingly and that wasnt just a one off. Also, he mainly seemed to go for cover drives and kept the ball on the floor, rather than being a big hitter, which makes his average even more remarkable.

I didnt intend to be so harsh on Bradman with my earlier post. I was just trying to set out that if Bradman had the benefits of technology and modern pitches, but also came up agains the type of bowling and fielding we see today (Cricketers have become better at both and general fitness has vastly improved) how would he fare?

When Bradman and his records/status comes into question I always point out that the more you study his records the better he gets. The fact he missed the majority of what should of been his prime is the first one anyone should consider
