IVA Richards
As I said earlier in this thread he was the best IMO.
However, I cannot win this argument when the statistics show Tendulkar at the top of the test pile."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

Hmmm but there are a few contributory factors, notably the sheer volume of Test cricket played these days.Originally posted by looprevil View Post

Doesn't that make Tendulkars achievements greater given the level of consistent concentration required for so many matches all year round?Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostHmmm but there are a few contributory factors, notably the sheer volume of Test cricket played these days."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Undoubtedly, but then we would have found out if he would have been as consistent as Tendulkar. I think he would have.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostNot so sure about that. If Richards had had the chance to play so much cricket, he'd have scored many more runs."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

Thats like saying what about the matches Sachin missed when he was injured. We can all go on about what-ifs but at the end of the day the records dont lie.In Rafa I Trust

FWIW I’m not trying to denigrate Sachin’s wonderful achievements. He’s an absolute world beater and one of the greatest bats that ever lived. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Nice to see Bhajji doing well in the Test. Boy them Aussies just don't like him do they...but then again, he seems to get them out quite frequently. Ponting really is his bunny,b*tch or whatever you want to call it
Sachin is one of the best batsman of all time. Could spend years arguing over who actually is the best.
Personally I'd say Sachin, but I can also see why people say Lara (more match winning knocks) and Richards.

The more Test Cricket you play the harder it becomes to maintain a good average. Sachin's Test Cricket average is pretty good me thinks. For me, the best batsman that's ever played the game of cricket. Has dealt with the pressure of a nation enormously well and has been a top guy both on and off the pitchOriginally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostHmmm but there are a few contributory factors, notably the sheer volume of Test cricket played these days.
The guy is a legend

I wasn't referring to the average, I was referring to the opportunity to be able to stockpile runs - which Sachin has been able to do due to the huge amount of cricket now played, and against village teams like Bangladesh, Zimbabwe etc. As you can see he's scored over a thousand runs against that dross.Originally posted by Sarb24 View PostThe more Test Cricket you play the harder it becomes to maintain a good average.
The stats gleaned from cricket today do not tell the full story when you consider the circumstances in which the likes of Richards, Border etc from the 80s and prior played their cricket. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Good point. But Sachin is still the bestOriginally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostI wasn't referring to the average, I was referring to the opportunity to be able to stockpile runs - which Sachin has been able to do due to the huge amount of cricket now played, and against village teams like Bangladesh, Zimbabwe etc. As you can see he's scored over a thousand runs against that dross.

I can hardly blame Indian guys for being of that opinion. Personally, as a neutral in this debate
(England don’t have a candidate
), my ‘in my lifetime’ list would go Richards, Tendulkar, Lara.
Obviously Bradman is the best ever. That will never change. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
