                    Barrera cut threatens Khan fight

Amir Khan's bout with Marco Antonio Barrera is in jeopardy after the Mexican great suffered a cut in a warm-up bout on Saturday.

Former three-weight world champion Barrera was butted by late substitute Freudis Rojas in his home town of Jalisco, before Rojas was disqualified.

More than 15,000 tickets have been sold for the planned fight between Khan and Barrera in Manchester on 14 March.

Barrera will see a doctor on Monday before deciding if he can box.

"I spoke to Don King [Barrera's promoter] and he told me that hopefully it will be OK," Khan's promoter Frank Warren told The Times.

"At the moment, we just don't know. I am told it was a vertical gash, but we will find out more on Monday.

"I did not want this fight in Mexico to happen, but I think there was pressure on him to go ahead with it. If the worst comes to the worst, we will have to push it back a couple of weeks, but we don't want to do that."

The 35-year-old Barrera is a seven-time world champion, has won 65 of his 72 fights and will undoubtedly be the biggest test Khan, 22, has faced so far in his career.

Also on the MEN Arena, Nicky Cook is due to defend his WBO super-featherweight title against unbeaten Puerto Rican Roman Martinez, who is the mandatory challenger, while Enzo Maccarinelli is due to fight Argentine Victor Ramirez.

I hope the event is put back a few weeks if the cut isnt sorted, as i dont want a replacement fighter brought in. Barrera is one of the main reasons i got a ticket.

The video of the Barrera headbutt is on YouTube.

                        Nothing but a little nick.

It won't affect the fight on the 14th of March.

I can see that this fight has really captured the imagination of est1892.

I just cannot see anything other than a fairly comprehensive Barrera win on Saturday - too strong, too clever and just way too experienced for Amir IMO. Hope I am wrong but it just seems the wrong opponent for Amir at this stage/development of his career.

Going to have to disagree with you on this one.

I think Khan will win within 6.

He's too big, strong and fast for Barrera.

MAB has never fought at 135. Khan is a big lightweight.

MAB is several years past his prime.

Don't get me wrong MAB is an ATG but i fear that this is one fight to many and it'll sicken me when the Khan camp make a big deal of Khan beating a faded MAB.

Throw Khan in with a live 135er. One of the Diazs for example.

Well I fancy Barrera for a late stoppage.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
