Boxing tonight @10pm Sky Sports 1

Some lad I know is fighting tonight on Sky Sports 1 - Friday Night Fight Night Live 10pm

Nick Macdonald makes his professional debut tonight, recently signed by Frank Maloney. He was a succesful amateur, missed out on the oylmpics where Amir Kahn made his name due to injury (Kahn took Nicks place due to a broken hand) and then Nick had an absoloute mare in the commonwealth games. He is a young lad from the Wirral - he has been with my girlfriends sister for a few years now(thats how I know him) and he is very eager to make it big(he has the talent) Any way have a look out for him

any boxing fans -have u heard of him - thoughts?

    good luck Nick

I look forward to seeing him fight. The haskins fight should be good as well. I'm surprised that Warren has let your mate fight on some one else' bill.

My mistake. I've just noticed that you said Frank maloney

Yeah look out for him, he is very quick and aggresive, be interesting to see how makes the step up from amateur to pro - not sure who he is fighting yet - got to go round to my birds house in a moment as we are having a bit of gathering there for the fight, so I post again after the fight(prob 2moro)

As a side note. If the Haskins fight goes the full 12 rounds then his fight might not be shown. Hopefully iy is.

Saw him at the Four nations championships last year, spoke a little to him to wish him well after he beat one of our team, seemed a nice kid. Ask him if he remembers fighting David Oliver Joyce. I was over with the Irish team and have to admit that Nick caught the eye that day whilst I watched him get the result over David.

As a side note, a lad from our club fought and won that day, and is now starting to cut his teeth in the pro ranks. Andy Lee is worth keeping an eye on too.

It has to be said that it wasn't the best debut but you could see that he has talent. He just seemed to allow himself to be dragged into a brawl. He'll hopefully learn from that last night because he should bever have allowed his opponent to fight up close after getting the cut above his eye.

yeah you're right, his lack of experience dragged him into a brawl, in amateur with the headguards etc it would of been no problem, but he is a bit of a scally at heart and is to eager to dive and brawl and times, standing toe to toe etc. He needed 9 stitches in the end, but he (and the commentators) said it was a very difficult first fight, he had the option to fight a few no marks but wouldn't back down - I'm sure he'll bounce back, he'll have too, my girlfriends sister wants a house.

Some of the best fighters lost their first fight. Bernard Hopkins being one of them and look how his career turned out in the end.

In time, no one will remember how his first fight went. The boy is raw but he has ability and it would be nice to be reading about him doing good things in the game in a few years.
