I've never seen him try something like this in a grand slam before. He's so humble he'll never showboat.

Great semi that, both players played it in the right spirit...and from about 7 games in, Federer was sublime...winning the French finally seems to have really set him free of pressure.
I've liked the look of Del Potro so far, he has some crunching ground shots, but will he be able to blast Federer of the court, or will he need a little bit of finesse, something i don't think he yet has to his game.
Fingers crossed for a great final, would love to see Fed win it for a 6th time, but if DP wins it can only be good for the game, adding a little variety to the Nadal/Federer slam domination.

I saw the shot live and I was left totally unmoved by it. It was a shot to nothing - he tried it and got lucky. Obviously he'd successfully play the shot more often than most - perhaps more than everyone else - but to me it was just a matter of luck.
It's like long-range shots in football - they leave me pretty cold..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

It was a shot to nothing, but that doesn't detract from the sheer brilliance of it. 99 times out of 100 that shot will hit the net or bounce into mid court for the opponent to mop up. To hit such an outstanding winner in that manner at the critical stage of a grand slam semi final is nothing short of outragegously outstanding.A humble guy with healthy desire.

If he'd been match point down and had a choice to play another shot then I'd find it easier to agree. As it was it didn't really matter to him if it went into the net, sailed out or was simply swatted away on the volley by Djokovic.Originally posted by The Erectile Banana View PostKilljoy.

I really don't think the odds are anywhere near as low as 1/100 anyway. For him I mean..

It did matter though, as it brought him match point. If he'd missed it would have been 15-30 and Djokovic may have had a chance of holding serve.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostIf he'd been match point down and had a choice to play another shot then I'd find it easier to agree. I think it's a thing of beauty because Federer did it. The man is so graceful that he has almost elevated tennis to an art form. Some of the shots he hits are out of this world. If any other player had pulled this off it may have been written off as a fluke, but because it was Fed, the most technically gifted player of his generation and possibly all time, it will go down as one of the great shots.A humble guy with healthy desire.
