Rampage quits UFC- Retires from fighting

n a shock move, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has announced via his personal website that he is retiring from mixed martial arts. A long blog post - reproduced below - centers on the fallout between him and UFC president Dana White following the announcement that Jackson would be taking part in the A-Team movie instead of fighting Rashad Evans.

    Rampage wrote:
    ---------------------------
The UFC has done a lot for me but I think I have done more for them. The UFC bought WFA to get my contract & they saved my life, so I felt loyal to them. They pushed me into a fight with Chuck Liddell even when I clearly stated I wasn't ready to fight for the belt because the American fans didn't know me but I took the fight and didn't complain & after I won the American fans booed me for the first time which changed the way I saw them & it hurt me deeply.

Then before I can even get out of the cage they announced that I was fighting Dan Henderson without even asking me. After I beat Dan Henderson, I made history in becoming the first undisputed champion in MMA but was never even given the Pride belt in the cage & I was never promoted as the undisputed champ. Later Anderson Silva was.

Then they had me coach TUF season 7 and fight Forrest and the fight was very controversial & normally when a fight is that close & controversial there is normally an instant replay. I can name a couple of instances. Instead they offered me the Vanderlei Silva fight which I gladly accepted even though I know it was a very risky fight for me to take because of all the drama that was happening to me at the time. I fought that fight with a jaw injury and then a couple weeks later Dana called me and asked me to fight Rashad. For the first time I said no, I didn't want to fight because it was such short notice & I wouldn't have had a long break between camp. Dana talked me into fighting Rashad anyway but Rashad refused the fight and so I had to fight Jardine as a favor to the UFC instead of getting my belt back (which wasn't even worth it to me financially).

Then I reinjured my jaw in the fight with Wanderlei & Jardine. Frank Mir gets hurt so they wanted to switch my fight from UFC 100 to the fight Frank couldn't make it to but I couldn't fight cause I needed jaw surgery. So they give Machida the fight against Rashad & they told me they want me to coach TUF season 10 against Rashad.

That's why I wanted Rashad to win so bad but when Rashad got knocked out I told them I wanted to fight Machida for the belt but Dana told me if I coach TUF against Rashad that I could fight Machida afterwards cause this was a different type of ultimate fighter show they were doing. After I signed the contract Dana then changes his mind & says I have to fight Rashad & even told me what to say in the press & so my fans think I was scared to fight Machida. After all that I still never complained & I did it all.

Then this movie role came about that I have been trying to get for over a year & as soon as I found out I was close to getting it, I called Dana right away & asked to push the Memphis fight back just a month or so. I told him what this movie role meant to me.

I told him that I used to bond with my father watching the tv show as a kid when my parents where still married & it represents the memories I had with my father when we lived together. My dad became an alcohalic & addicted to drugs & we grew apart. But after my dad got his life back together, I was so proud of my dad & I told him I would always take care of him in the future & make him proud of me. My dad & I are still very big fans of the show & I am basically doing this for the childhood memories I had spending time in front of the tv with my dad.

Dana went on the internet & mocked me because of that & I still did nothing. Dana & I finally talked & we made up & then after that he went back on the internet & said some bull**** & he was talking bad about the movie when information is not even supposed to be released & talking about payments which is not even true could really hurt my future acting career, which could very well last longer than my fighting career. I'm not like Randy Couture. My body has been getting so many different injuries that I wont be able to fight until my forties & neither do I want to fight that long. So I feel like my second career could be in jeopardy.. so I'm done fighting.

I've been getting negative reviews from the dumb ass fans that don't pay my bills or put my kids though college. So I'm hanging it up. I'm gonna miss all my loyal fans but hopefully they'll follow me to my new career & I will gain more loyal fans along the way. & all you hater fans out there can kiss my big black hairy ass! & anybody that don't like what I just said can come try to kick my ass!

I still feel the UFC is a great organization and I felt like I was very loyal to them but they didn't respect my loyalty but I wish the UFC the best. I did a lot of things for them. I wish no bad blood between us but I have kids & a family back in Memphis to provide for & thats all that matters to me!

UFC president Dana White has responded to Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson’s retirement announcement in uncharacteristically diplomatic fashion. He called the Carmichael Dave show several hours after Rampage posted a blog entry on his withdrawal from MMA competition.

“I just found out. Rampage first and foremost is a friend of ours and we really like Rampage,” he said, before moving on to address some of the points made in Rampage’s blog post. One of these was the suggestion that Rampage felt he had done more for the UFC than the organisation had done for him.

“I am not going to get into the battle of who did what for who and all that stuff. We’ve done a lot for him and yes he has been there and fought. The guys come in here and that’s what they do, they fight. They are fighters. We give them fights and they make money, and we make money and that’s the way it works,” he said.

“Believe me, if you think this is the first time I have dealt with people who think they want to become actors and they are going to make millions and millions off making movies and acting, [its not]. And because I got so pissed off with him pulling out of the fight with Rashad… I am speaking my mind, he thinks I am trying to ruin his career.”

Rampage wrote that he felt White had, by dismissing his movie ambitions, disparaged him personally and damaged their relationship as a result. White disagrees.

“I have nothing bad to say about Rampage, he is a grown man. This guy decides he wants to walk away from guaranteed good money right now - money he will never have the opportunity to make for the rest of his life, because he wants to make movies - he is a grown man, he can do whatever he wants.,” he said.

“What I have done with Rampage is I have spoken to him as a friend and tried to talk him out of making a bad decision, but he doesn’t think it is. He thinks he is going to have this movie career but there has been so many fighters over the years that thought they were going to have these movie careers [and didn’t].”

Rampage also contended that the UFC had misled him in setting up a fight with Rashad Evans. That fight became a fight with Keith Jardine at UFC 96 instead.

“That’s not true about Rashad. I offered him the Rashad fight and yes I talked him into it the first time, but then we tried to get Rashad and he turned it down. That’s why we made the Jardine fight. But that is what we do, call these guys and offer them fights,” says White.

“Rampage Jackson told me he wasn’t interested in the belt, the belt caused him too many problems. Its not like he was going after Machida because he wanted the belt. He didn’t want the belt. It brought too many problems into his life. He just wants to fight, make money and feed his family, is exactly what he told me.”

White freely admits he is annoyed about Rampage pulling out of the UFC 107 fight with Rashad Evans. That bout was set to round out TUF 10 and would have taken place in Rampage’s home town.

“All he has been telling me since he got in the UFC is he wants to fight in Memphis, which is his some town. We make the fight in Memphis and he pulls out because he wants to do a movie instead, because it has so much sentimental value to him,“ he says.

“Come on man, he is a fighter, that is what he does for a living. And now I am going through all this crap again, another fighter going ‘You know what, this isn’t what I want to do for the rest of my life. I want to make movies, I want a movie career.’ Like I haven’t seen this before!”

“Rampage is a grown man. He is acting like a baby right now but he is a grown man. If he wants to be in the movie business, Rampage, good luck to you man. I hope you make it big, and I am not being sarcastic, because Rampage Jackson is a guy that I actually like and Rampage Jackson is a guy that I know doesn’t always make the best decisions. I hope the movie thing works out for him, if that is what he truly wants to do and what he thinks his career is, I wish him all the luck in the world. I like Rampage, I have no ill will towards him whatsoever.”

Despite the setback of apparently losing Jackson’s services, coupled with the likes of Georges St. Pierre being out of action until 2010, White says it is all just business as usual for the UFC.

“We’ve got no problems. We are in the fight business, we make fights, that’s what we do. There’s always guys that are injured, guys that have conflicting dates, stuff comes up, movie roles… there is something every day,” he said.

“I have said this for years, there is one thing guaranteed when I get out of bed: bad stuff is going to happen today. It happens every day and its my job to deal with it.”

            ...and another!

Legendary striker, Mirko Cro Cop retires from mixed martial arts

MMABay has been informed by a source close to the situation that Croatian knockout, Mirko Cro Cop has brought down the curtain on his mixed martial arts career following his most recent loss last weekend.

According to a number of Croatian MMA news sites, Cro Cop's manager, Zvonimir Lucic spoke to his training partners, Igor Pokrajcom and Sasa Mučnjak, this week to inform them that the camp will be disbanded based on the heavyweight's decision not to fight again. They were given their final payoff.

Cro Cop's decision to quit mixed martial arts will not come as a surprise to many after reading his post fight comments this week. The once feared striker admitted he had lost his drive and desire and had been finding it difficult to pull the trigger.

We wish him all the best and thank him for the memories

Dana White is a bang up bloke and a very upfront straight down the middle boss. I admire and like Rampage a lot, but the truth of the matter is the film is taking longer than expected to complete and he is not carrying out his commitments. End of Story. It will be a big loss to the UFC .. Rampage is still one hell of a fighter but Its probally a wise wise move on his behalf, he is still a Bad Ass, still very popular and he is a natural star outside of the ring .. funniest guy in MMA

He'll probally sign with EA MMA now for big bucks

Cro cop is my favourite fighter and its painful to see him like he is now. Its best he retires before he makes a mockary of hi past achievments.

However, i has seen a more recent interview where he says he didnt retire

He needs to retire .. he has lost it big time .. love the guy .. but as I have said before .. he is MMA 2.0 we are now operating on Version 4.0

Also top fighters know he does not like fighting off the back foot and his stand up reduces dramatically when you back him up
