One thing: why is his dental treatment not provided by the NHS?
Of course the immediate reason is that implants are seen as cosmetic and therefore not covered by the NHS but it seems quite clear to me that in this case it's quite wrong, in both moral and clinical terms.
And to think the NHS offered to fix my chipped tooth for free if it was damaging my self esteem.

How old were you then though? Under eighteen I bet.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
I had to have an implant last year and couldn't get it on the NHS because it was deemed cosmetic. My self-esteem was under serious threat since it was one of the front top pair. They'd have given me a denture - like that was acceptable.

Thanks.
Although there was no need to go to that extreme - I could have found out about NHS dental policy in other ways. You've gone way beyond the call of duty there.
