To be fair, Strauss was absolutely right not to declare earlier. I don't see the point of it. Its a test match with over 2 days left to play if you have 1 or 2 wickets left then try to make as big a total as possible. With so much time available declaring early is just silly.

On the point of pakistan. The team is fairly young and very inexperienced when it comes to test cricket. What they are trying to do is push on one or 2 of the young batsmen in the top order because they know Yousuf and Khan are getting old. I think for whatever reason Yousuf might be finished from this team but iv heard they are bringing Younis Khan back now.

I have never been a fan of the new captain Salman Butt but alot of coaches seem to rate him highly so i suppose he has to be given time. The decision to use the 2 spinners at the end yesterday was just retarted. Amir would have finished it off it given the ball.

Farhat is jus utter ****e. Malik is **** too. And there are 1 or 2 batsman other who have only played a handful of test matches. These guys are going to have to develop bloody fast though. I miss Inzi, yousuf, khan and when was the last time pak had an opening pair that could bat? I think there may be real hope in the akmal brothers though. Umar especially might become a great batsman one day

Well, now you've put it so convincingly it is clear to me the timing of the declaration coinciding with Prior's century was merely happenstance, and Strauss's established record for not declaring counts for nothing. No thoughts to giving batsmen time at the crease in test conditions before an important winter tour.

          Excellent.

I'm glad that we're now agreed upon that.

Haider will be keeping for Pakistan rather than Akmal which is good news because Akmal is a terrible keeper. Problem is it was a direct switch so they'll lose Kamran Akmal's batting ability in a team with **** batsmen. For me him and his brother are the best in the team with Butt and Malik the only other decent batsmen. So practically, in my eyes anyway they only have the one good batsmen, Umar Akmal who looked in piss poor touch during the first test.

****in hell, I would never have dropped Akmal for this match. He does make the odd mistake but he's not a terrible keeper, he just had a poor first test like the rest of that team. A debutant keeper in a match of this magnitude
Kamran Akmal can usually bat a bit too which makes this yet another bad decision.

No Muhammad Yousuf and yet Salman Butt chooses to bat first This could be very one sided again

He had a terrible series against in Australia at the start of the year which has had questions over his keeping ability. Waqar Younis pretty much said on television the other day that he didn't rate him, so I'm not really surprised but it's a pretty poor decision to drop him.

He's not great but he's not terrible either. I haven't seen a better pakistani keeper lately and this really isn't the place to be given someone a dubut. Kamran was poor against australia but then he came back and did very well in the 20/20s. He took quite a few catches last week too, one of which was brilliance.
They should have stuck with him. Watch them bring him back again for the next test. Fools

Well the general theory is he's good enough for the 20 or 50 over formats because there isn't that much keeping to be done. But if he has to keep in test matches which could be 3 out of 5 days 90x3 is 270 overs (1620) legal deliveries. That's a ****load of keeping, and they feel he's too liable to to make big mistakes over that period.

Anyhow, the way they batting currently he won't have to keep for half of that. They're ****!
