The Australians (when they were a really great side) never had any fear of dropping people when they thought they needed to have to work to get back in. Cook might well be a good influence around the team but he needs to get back to being a good influence in the team too. Should have been allowed to play a bunch of county cricket (or to try his hand abroad) for the summer to get himself back on his game IMO.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostGo away Alastair Cook FFS. 9-1."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I suspect you've read Duncan Fletcher's column in today's Guardian.Originally posted by dww View PostThe Australians (when they were a really great side) never had any fear of dropping people when they thought they needed to have to work to get back in. I agree with you. Eventually every opening batsman has to be judged on how many runs they score..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Was it not yesterdays (well the bit about him being good around the team)? I believe Fletcher said he thought they were right to keep him in the team.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostI suspect you've read Duncan Fletcher's column in today's Guardian.

Ah, well, it could have been. I read it today. Yes, he did say that. Apparently, Cook contributes a lot in the dressing room - making tea, always prepared to run up a few sandwiches for Jimmy Anderson, laughing at Swanny's cat stories, listening to Pietersen's funny voice without smirking, that kind of thing.Originally posted by dww View PostWas it not yesterdays (well the bit about him being good around the team)?
