Just about every member of England's current cricket team could walk along Lime Street in Liverpool and I can guarantee that 99% of people wouldn't have a clue who they were. Like rugby - both sorts - it's a minority sport with no mass following over here.

Fortunately it's been on in the early hours here because of the time difference so it won't intrude on the sports channels while we're awake and the series will go unnoticed by a blissfully indifferent British public
you'd be suprise - it's becoming almost fashionable too watch cricket - probably a mixture of of the rise of the 20/20 format along with the rapid improvement of the English cricket team...it's very popular now.

I'd certainly say if the likes of KP, Broad, Anderson, Swann walked through liverpool they'd be bombarded. Granted some of the lesser recognisable ones would but the 'stars' defo

Apart from the Ashes I find cricket pretty boring.

          Bowler bowls.

          Batter bats.

Everyone sleeps (Test matches) / Everyone whoops inanely while sitting in jacuzzis (20/20).
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Agreed, but by all accounts if they made him captain he'd give it some thought.

Imagine the rumpus it would cause if Punter got the boot mid series.

i'm going to put it out there....most of my mates go nuts at me.....but I don't why...I like Ricky Ponting....i think it's just respect for him as a sports person more than anything - but a lot of my mates see him as a hate figure like gary neville

Aussies crying out for Warne to return and save them. This tour just gets better and better. Why don't we ask beefy to go into bat in the next test. LOL

                      - well they've made some changes for the next test - they are in bits chopping and changing - they look a bit lost, they don't know who to pick who to play, people losing form and confidence as the get picked/dropped.

I loved this line . . . . "Beer is the first Australian spinner to be plucked from obscurity for at least two weeks."

Who'd have thought it, always thought the Aussies would go on and on being the No1 in cricket, but i suppose in countries where population is'nt huge, and where they have specialised in being the best in the world at their national sport; like Australia and NZ, The Windies, when youngsters in those countries start to play other sports more, it's going to hurt the sport that country has predominately been great at, i think we're seeing that with Australia now too.
