Did Johnson come out to congratulate England, I couldn't see him the big sulky baby.

Meh, we will be back one day. Till then I don't know what cricket is.

I was confident England would be competitive and wouldn't just cave in, even after the defeat in Perth. But I didn't think they were quite this good.

The Australians have been poor and the likes of Clarke and Ponting obviously have underperformed but England have made them look even worse than they actually are.

Wow, that's a weird sentence - it feels like it's the wrong way round.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Fell asleep soon after the final wicket, but great stuff

Hopefully we'll wipe the floor with them in the one dayers as well, just to highlight our superiority.

Whilst I've always liked cricket I've never been to a game I might try and take in a Sussex 20/20 match sometime in the summer. Or maybe even a day at one of the India tests. How much does a ticket to that generally cost?

£15 for Surrey 20-20 games last season. I've seen a few games at Beckenham involving Surrey & Kent, and various Surrey games at Whitgift School in Croydon (including Cook ripping Surrey apart a couple of years ago in Pro40) and they are brilliant fun. Full of booze, don't drive.

Nothing beats The Oval for atmosphere though, it's a cracking ground

You should definitely go to a Test rather than a county T20. Be around £30 for a ticket to the Test but IMO you just can't beat a Test match. You start out all keen, eagle eyed and watching every ball. But as the beer flows and the Barmy Army become more vocal, you end up hardly watching any of it - but it's still brilliant.

I watched the 2005 Ashes there (the 4th day; the day that set us up for the draw!) and also the 2006 Pakistan test that was abandoned (a historic day).

There's a special atmosphere for the Ashes, always great banter between the Aus contingent and the English as well.

Definitely go for a day at a Test

I went to Old Trafford to see England v. West Indies a few years ago (Vaughan was still captain). It was awesome. We saw 13 wickets, Cook (I think) get a ton, Pietersen a half ton. All whilst supping pints. We were absolutely guttered by the end of the day, as were the entire crowd really. By the end of the day there were groups making 20ft tall beer tumbler towers in thevarious locations in the stand. Best day of Sport I have ever been to. One thing which sticks in my mind is how fast the bowling is when you are there, you literally cannot see it it is so fast, you basically watch a guy run up raise his arm and then before you know it the ball is in the wicket keepers gloves. Unbelievable.

Bare in mind that I am a Scot as well, but I love my cricket and it is the one sport where I really can get behind England.

Highlight (among many) of the day was Panesaar coming out to bat. The entire crowd going metal giving it 'Oh Monty Monty, Monty Monty Monty Monty Panesaar'. Panessar strides out listening to this, he gets in front of the stumps looks down the wicket preparing to receive his first ball, the ball is sent down and off course scatters his stumps. So Monty picks up his bat, and trudges back to the pavilion with the crowd who again have started bellowing the chant 'Oh Monty Monty, Monty Monty Monty Monty Panesaar'.

A genius day off massive misbehavior. Mind you I was a single childless man back then and could allow myself such frivolities.

Nb. Also went to see England v SA at the oval, but we saw about 15 overs and then it pissed with rain all day, which was something of an anti climax. Still spent all day in the boozer though!

Do you get your money back if a certain amount of play is missed due to weather in England? In Aus if a certain percentage of the game is missed you get your money back...

Uncanny - was it this day?

That was the last Test I went to. The Friday at Old Trafford. I was in the thick of the beer snake....****faced. (I took this pic, I'm not in it )

Bell got out on 97 in the morning and then we bowled them out. **** loads of wickets too.

BTW. Beer snakes are the best! Fondest memory of the New Years test at the SCG is the crowd. Gives so much more to going to the games other than the actual action out in the middle
