Is baseball worse the cricket? Tough call.
    Oh I don't know.

Surely it can't be worse than cricket - the single most eye dryingly tedious game ever invented.

I watched the series final game (whatever it is) a couple years ago when they won it again. Never gone back to watching it. This is just full of gob spitters. Like cricket and many other sports, highlights are good enough but I won't go out my way to watch it.

Aren't all US sports series called that because of the name of the newspaper that sponsored them or some such nonsense?

                Don't think so.

There's no official reason why it's called that but it's hard to argue considering that most (if not all) the best players in the world play in the Major Leagues.

It's difficult to explain what's great about baseball to people who aren't familiar with it - especially if they have settled on an opinion and are dead set against changing it.

The rules can seem complicated and excitement can be sparse. But there are so many nuances and little things to look for and appreciate. Like with most things, the more you know about it, the more interesting it becomes. It's not something you're going to "get" by watching one game on TV.

And watching on television does not compare with the experience of seeing it in person. Ballparks, for the most part, are beautiful places. The season runs the entire summer so most of the time, you're sitting in a beautiful building, on a warm summer afternoon/evening with a beer in hand, soaking in the experience.

When the playoffs come around, the games are very intense and exciting - if you know what to look for and appreciate.

Although it's popularity is somewhat on the decline, baseball is, as writers have often said, "woven into the fabric of American culture" so I could easily see how someone from outside the US wouldn't understand.

But for those of us who grew up playing and watching the game, it makes perfect sense.

It is called the world series because it was conceived by the newspaper The Boston World.

                    That's a myth.

That is almost exactly how I'd describe cricket to someone who didn't like it.

Pitcher pitches. Batter bats. Spectator whoops insanely.
                        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
