Power play is when the fielding side are only allowed two fielders 'outside the circle'...i.e all bar two of them are in close (circle is 30 yards I think)...only two fielding in the deep. It's designed to give the batting side a temporary advantage but it doesn't always work out that way. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Fair question - cricket first attracted me in 2005, the famous ashes thingy. Never been into it - too slow. Like golf. Never understood it, but that glimpse whetted my appetite. A bit.Originally posted by PaddyPool View PostProbably a bad time to ask lads but,,,whats a power play ??
Bad luck today btw. Next time yeh ??
However, now I watch it when I can, and I'm slowly getting the hang of things. Part of the magic is not having a clue and listening to stuff like 'oooh that went straight through deep outside mid silly cover off blah blah blah.'
Slowly, I'll pick it up, I just like not knowing what they're on about in a curious sort of way.
...but not knowing what this was was beginning to irk me. I have gathered that it's something for ODIs (see what I did there ehOriginally posted by Shaggy View Post

We're out unless we beat the farties now - right?

I get where you're coming from but I'm actually the opposite. The Ashes is a riveting chess match. Sometimes you can't take your eyes of it for entire sessions, sometimes you can sit playing games in front of the TV with your kid without missing too much, just look up when they get excited.
On the other hand these 1 dayers / T20's are just a bit of slap and tickle. No tactics required, just whack it. I can watch bits and bobs but really can't get myself into it that much.

BTW it's called silly point with good reason, it's not just a nonsense name. In the old days they didn't have helmets and it was extremely dangerous standing that close in on the bat, so any position close in on the bat is "Silly x".
