I'm just hoping this is a Nadal style time out before he comes back all guns blazing, but the toll he put on himself in the push for the #1 looks huge now. The amount of stress the top guys put on themselves is absolutely crazy - there had to be a breakdown at some point - it doesn't seem to be a coincidence that he and Djok are suffering now. They were so machine like with their consistency for such a long time. Pretty much the same age too.

Just retire...he's been number 1, he's won Wimbledon and other slams, he's got all the money he could need, so he's achieved a whole load of his ambitions.
I doubt he will ever be considered the greatest of all time, no matter what he does in the future, so why put your body through more pain and suffering for a couple of extra titles? Just sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labours, it's what I would want to do.

Why should he retire? Tennis is his life.
He’s only been out for what, 6 months. If there is even a remote chance he can make it back then he has to go for it. Look at Federer he was out for the best part of a year and came back to win Slams. During that year everyone was calling for him to retire.Modifying post.

Yeah, Nadal has had large chunks out of the game with bad injuries he's currently world #1 and won two slams last year.
Murray just needs to take the decision of either the op or try and rest and rehab the issue but no reason to think either way that he can't come back and find the form he's had previously.

I suspect he needs the op.
He probably has to decide between having the op and almost zero tennis this year, or giving it more time and hoping his injury clears up, but if it doesn't still requiring the op. I'd imagine Wimbledon is in his mind, whether he can prove his fitness for Wimbledon.
Watching him last week, he still had all his technical prowess, he just couldnt chase out wide particularly on his forehand side. Given that his unbelievable work ethic and ability to chase everything down is the bedrock of his game, this could pose some problems.
Tennis is a poorer sport without he and Djokovic that is for sure.Modifying post.
