Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

To me it's insane. Yes ban them for life if they must - the deterrent needs to be strong - but I cannot see how jail can be justified. They were just pawns, surely? The real criminals are the gangsters, dodgy bookmakers etc. Jail seems wildly inappropriate to me. The whole thing is very sad.

I agree to a point they are just pawns in a much bigger and more elaborate scheme but by giving jail terms it'll serve as a very strong warning to others that if they try and fix games then they'll be dealt with in a similar manner.

Harsh I know but somehow you've got to try and stop this and getting anywhere near the guys actually running these scams and making huge amounts of money never seem to be anywhere near getting caught.

Just ****s me off. You see real criminals getting paltry sentences for kicking people practically to death and other serious crimes, while these guys get harsh custodial sentences. When I was 14 I was beaten senseless by a proven criminal and he got a 6 month supervision order, which is even less than probation. I know what I think is a worse crime. In fact I'm not even sure what they did is a crime.

that is a massive issue with the justice system where serious crimes aren't punished enough and lesser crimes are hammered massively.

I know where you're coming from, I got seriously assulted broken nose that needed to be operated on, chipped teeth and then threats about the court case - he got a fine and somesort of suspended sentence.

They've have been dealt with harshly here bit I think with cases so much in the public eye it's almost as if they feel they have to.

Sends out the strongest warning to all cricketers tempted to do the same thing.

Feel for Mohammed Amir only in all of this, but the sentences are justified IMO.

Time for Pakistan to move on and focus solely on cricket again, if that is possible.

I think the ICC need to really start looking to be pro-active in shutting these types of corruption down.

they did **** all after the Cronje stuff happened and seem to have done little again with this current case

I know what you're getting at but it is a crime and they're real criminals too.
