    The worlds biggest leagues

Not very interesting but I just saw a list of the ten most populare leages (based on spectators) in the world.
    http://www.sportingintelligence.com/...l-attendances/
NFL is on top, PL in fourth place.
Over 70 million watch MLB over a season, but they do play loads of games in a season
The most popular league if them all seems to be america college football. 22 teams have higher averages than NFL, five of them have an average above 100 000 pr game.

    So we better start (re-)building.

College football is way more popular live than the NFL. Teams have deeper community roots, there are way more teams (about 120 in the FBS division alone) and the tickets are cheaper. Loads of the stadiums are century old ****pits with bench seating, but there's nothing quite like seeing 110,000 at the Big House when it's snowing. NFL TV audiences dwarf the college games, mind.

Problem with the Premier League is that there is so much TV money smaller teams who can survive a couple of years in the top flight can build a base for themselves despite small attendances. Removing Blackburn, Bolton and Wigan and replacing them with teams with traditionally stronger support, like Leeds, Wednesday, and Derby and there's be a difference. The depth in English football means it's easier for large teams to sink than it is in, for instance, Germany.

Hell, Wednesday's average home gate was higher this year than Wigan's. They're two divisions lower and only filling 45% of their ground.
