yep i have been to about 9 or 10 opens - st andrews a couple of times, birkdale, hoylake(where i live ) troon, lythm and st annes

it's unreal when u see it up close and live - the hand speed and atheltiscm invloved in the body turn shocks you and makes you appreciate how much of a sport it actually is - even the fat old guys like miguel angel jimenez - his hands must be moving about 100mph through the ball

i've always enjoyed the practice days - they are not as busy, and the atmosphere is more relaxed so it means you get closer to the pro's and see them as humans a bit more as they will laugh and joke and interact with the crowd...

you also get to see just how good they are as they will try a few things - ie, walk into a bunker, drop 5 balls, and then splash them out one and after another to 3 inches, no issues, and just walk off like a boss
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

Definitely a good day out, I was supposed to be marshalling at Sandwich this year as my club had been invited to provide marshalls for the week. Was scheduled to do 3 stints of marshalling which would have given me a weeks pass to the Open, a pucker waterproof suit and food and drink on the days I was marshalling but due to the fact I have hardly played at my course for the past 2 years I decided I couldn't justify paying nearly £140 for my membership and not utilise it so with not renewing I also lost my week at Sandwich.
£140 a month? That's on the steep side these days Jas. Most clubs round here try to keep membership under £1000 a year, some are starting to drop lower than that. I never pay more than £15 a round now, unless it's a special occasion. 2For1s FTW!

I may just go down on the wednesay, sounds more like what I'm looking to get our of the experience. Can't see the point of going any day other than Sunday, a bit like the first 3 days of a test match
