    Comparative stats

USA - 104 medals, 21 sports, 60 of the medals in Swimming and Athletics alone. 7 sports where only 1 medal was won
    China - 87 medals, 20 sports, 4 sports with only 1 medal
    GB - 65 medals, 19 sports, 4 sports with only 1 medal

If we could get a real good quality swimming and athletics program going then we would be serious challengers for 1st of second on the medal table.

We were at an advantage due to having automatic qualification into every event we entered. I wonder how many of those medals have been won by people who would not have qualified for the Olympics if it was elsewhere.

I know a lot of it represented everything I hate about modern pop music, but I kind of enjoyed it all

It was crying out for Blur to finish with The Universal though. They could have easily legged it there from Hyde Park

"And it really really really could happen" would have been apt I think.

          I miss the olympics already

I found the lack of Blur disturbing. Also, it was a bit of a strange collection of artists. I thought there could have been a wider cross section of British music. Instead we got people that were either decent 15-20 years ago, and people that are the hot artists of today.

The Stones would have killed it, same with some one like Radiohead or similar. But it was mostly all pop. ****ty pop that no one will remember in 20 years. New Order would have been something different and memorable.

Who am I kidding, they should have just shown the whole Blur gig and been done with it.

Also, Beady Eye doing Wonderwall. Give me a break. The bloke spends 3 years telling everyone he will never do an Oasis song, and at the sign of money/exposure he is up there signing through his nose at the first opportunity.

At least Noel Gallagher has no shame in admitting that he will use the songs to help boost his Solo career.

It wasn't very good was it, Jessie J aside obviously.

Opening Ceremony was something else though.

Nice to see the press avoiding anything negative said about the closing ceremony.

This week is going to be so boring. What a fantastic distraction the Olympic Games were.

Someone at work was telling me that the organisers approached Noel first to see if he wanted to sing Wonderwall, which makes Liam's appearance all the more funny.

Real shame they couldn't get David Bowie there to sing Heroes. That would have been immense.

I listened to an interview with Roger Daltrey earlier in the week and he said the whole thing last night was mimed. It was not technically or physically possible to get into the stadium all the kit required for a live performance of that scale between the athletics concluding and the ceremony starting.

It sounded to me like all the performers re-recorded their songs 'as live' anyway. And they seemed to add a lot of reverb onto the vocals, almost to trick us into thinking it was live but it just sounded a bit wrong.

It was all just really strange and didn't hang together very well imo.

And to have Kate Bush and David Bowie sections without either of those turning up was a bit unfortunate to say the least.

                          And where was Robbie Williams?

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
