Roman O'Gara to call it a day? It will be sad if he does. He's a legend.

O'Gara 'done with Ireland' after World Cup
Rugby*: Ireland's record points scorer Ronan O'Gara has indicated he will retire after the World Cup. Speaking after playing a crucial role in Ireland's 15-6 win over Australia in Auckland the Munster outhalf signalled the end of his 11-year international career is very near.

The 34-year-old came off the bench and kicked two late penalties on Saturday morning to seal a thrilling and historic win over the Wallabies that transformed Ireland's World Cup hopes.

O'Gara, twice a Heineken Cup winner and the tournament's highest ever points-scorer, was close to tears when speaking to the media after the game and told Ireland's national broadcaster that his international days were coming to an end.

"It's massive, this is it for us, I'm done with Ireland in a few weeks," an emotional O'Gara told RTE television. "I've had a great time in this jersey but I want this to be the biggest time. It's a great team, a great bunch of lads and it means a lot to us."

O'Gara has scored over 1,000 points for Ireland, almost twice as many as any other player and is one of only three players to have won over 100 caps for the country, his 113 appearances second only to captain Brian O'Driscoll.

He has been vying with Leinster's Jonny Sexton for the Irish number 10 jersey over the past two seasons, but if he does go he will have left plenty of magical moments for fans to remember, not least his contribution at Eden Park today and his drop-goal against Wales two years ago that sealed Ireland's Grand slam since 1948.

That rug really tied the room together.

I'll always remember him for the last minute pen in the 2nd test on the 2009 lions tour!

Ireland deserved the win today on all fronts - it was brilliant to see the ozzies humbled.

However, I can't see Ireland maintaining those levels throughout the tournament.

If they do they've got a chance of winning it but I reckon they've peaked.

I just hope that England don't get too many injuries tomorrow.

Makes sense really, O'Gara's been past it (well not at his best anyhow) for a while and it's time for Sexton to take over the rains for them. They need to build the team around him as a focal point.

Bit slack from England today, too many penalties given away and errors when in good positions.

Fringe players had the chance to step up but most failed to impress

Thought Shaw was excellent and Thompson must have the hooker position nailed down now.

The Rugby union bonus points system is a method of deciding table points from a rugby union match. It was implemented in order to encourage attacking play throughout a match, to discourage repetitive goal-kicking, and to reward teams for "coming close" in losing efforts.

No points are awarded for losing, unless bonus points are involved.
No team can get more than 5 points in a match.
In the system used in the Asian Five Nations competition, the minimum number of points that can be awarded to the two teams is 5 and the maximum 8, with a maximum of 6 points available to one team.

Under the standard system, points are awarded as follows:

                  4 points for a win.
                  2 points for a draw.
1 "bonus" point for scoring 4 tries (or more).
1 "bonus" point for losing by 7 points (or fewer).

4 points for a win, bonus point can be awarded for scoring 4 or more tries or losing by less than 7 points i.e. England vs Argentina finished at 13-9 - England get 4 points for a win and Argentina got a point for losing by less than 7.

Cheers lads. I saw a table with some one who had played twice and had 9 points (from memory), could not for the life of me, do the maths.

I can see the method in the madness.

it's not a bad idea with the tries as it rewards getting over the line rather than pens and drop goals.
