    Gym trainers

I need some suggestions for trainers to wear at the gym as my last pair disintegrated, through age rather than heavy usage. I won't be doing running but they do need to be suitable for weights, some cv machines, maybe the occasional class like Pilates or something.

I want leather (or similar) rather than webbing across the top, a good heel cup, good arch support.

I don't like Nike so I'm probably looking at New Balance, Adidas or Asics. It's not vital but that's the preference.

If you can recommend any particular shoes then great but even a shop with a decent range would be helpful. It's a desert round here.
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

      Gym at your age

It could be worse. It could be gym at your age.

I'm not really sure how your shoes disintegrated just because you're so old?

I know you said you don't like Nike, but Nike Lunarglides are great, nice and light, but still with a good level of support. I use them for running all the time. You can't go wrong with them.

Mine only lasted 200 miles! Still, they meet the aesthetic that Neil desires.

Pabs. You should give Brooks Ravenna 2s a go. So stable a horse could live in them. I've even been able to ditch the knee support. First race in them is this Sunday but I'm so impressed I'm incline to get a 2nd pair so I can alternate.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

My shoes disintegrated because they were old. The rubber perished.

Thanks except I don't want running shoes with webbing on the top. I don't run and I want a firmer upper.

                  Other than that,

No, they meet neither my aesthetic nor my functional requirements.

Asics fit walk lites are designed for walking but they're extremely light, leather, and durable.

Lunar glides are mesh. Ignore those spasmos above.
Contrary to popular belief, I have huge genitals.

                        Thanks, Dan.

A thread where both Dan and PTP make sensible contributions. Who'd a thunk?

I suppose it's the subject matter. It counterpoints the fact I don't know anything about trainers.

Aye, not mesh like 2150s though. More a breathable cover than a fishnet.

Neil, If it's just gym work and not any running then go for a cushioning shoe rather than structured.

Al, have a read of this and see if it's done anywhere near you. www.footbalance.com
