i remember early on, when harrison first turned pro, and signed with the bbc - i thought hmm i'll watch him, see what the 'hype' was about after the olympics - he scrapped through his first few fights then he fought a ****ing pub bouncer! it was a 6 round fight and this bouncer literlaly found out about the fight like two weeks before and took it - he ****ing had a good go too - think iirc correctly it went the distance (6 rounds) - harrison got slaughtered for it, for all his talk of what he wanted to be and achieve, he should have been knocking bums like that out in a couple rounds...

i've never seen harrison actually fight with any meaning.
The odd thing is, unless my mind's playing tricks, he was impressive in the Olympics. Very impressive, although I realise amateur boxing is practically a different sport.

He looks more likely to cause injury in Strictly Come Dancing than he ever did in the ring.

He was good in the Olympics. I am guessing the 3 rounds/point scoring system/helmet wearing suited him more.

aye - i only have vague memories of his olympic win however i remember being critical - or maybe not critical but certainly thinking why the fuss, what made me think it was....with him being a big black guy with dreadlocks winning heavyweight in the Olympics the comparisons with Lennox Lewis were almost immediate....but i again memory is hazy, something stood out – i’m sure lewis won his gold at about 22 yo? And Harrison nearly 30?

I was watching the Lewis - Tua (Talking about an insane height difference) fight and build up the other day and was laughing when it showed Audley who was the "special commentator" and everyone was praising him as the future of the heavyweight division when he was young. It was hilarious, hindsight is 20/20 I guess. Audley does/did have the physical attributes to be good, just not the mental capacity, although I never really rated him.

the thing is though....and this is why i doubted him from the start......he wasn't young - i'm sure when he actually turned pro he was 30? - and there was this talk of him being the next lennox lewis and i remember thinking really!!...well he's got a hell of a lot to do in the next few years to get even half as close.

Meh, cant say im arsed, theres no one to fight and he's not good enough v the best, doesnt need to keep fighting to pay his bills so may aswell pack it in.

He'd take a fight with Vitali if offered it during his "retirement" though.

He tried to get a final bout with Vitali, but it seems that negotiations were more complicated than expected. Fair enough IMO, yes it's premature but you can't really blame anyone from walking away from boxing with a huge bulge in their pocket and their health intact. Not everyone is Bernard Hopkins who can fight at 47 and it doesn't seem to effect his mental capacity (for the meantime anyhow). It appears walking away and staying away is the most difficult thing but no doubt a wise move.

Shame the uneducated public will think of him as a loser. He was phenomenal at Cruiserweight, but nobody really cared about that division.

Ultimately he will be remembered by the Klitschko fight. He really should have and could have won that fight (with a better approach) so his retirement is kind of frustrating tbh.

Perhaps a change of trainer may persuade him to change his mind, maybe if someone like Freddie Roach took him under his wings?

he said he was going to beat the brothers then retire, well hes failed so might as well retire. he seemed happy to walk away either way

Haye was lucky to be born in possibly the worst era in heavyweight boxing history.

This is the only reason Haye is makes the news.

I wonder why nobody cared, maybe because it was full of chancers, nearly men and downright losers, that a half decent fighter like Haye could knock over with his eyes closed.
