              They were indeed.

Night of shame for Scottish darts as Phil Taylor is spat on and Adrian Lewis jeered at Glasgow's SECC

FOR the second year in a row fans brought shame on the game in Scotland by abusing world champion Taylor and hate figure Lewis.

ADRIAN LEWIS last night admitted he feared for his safety and legend Phil Taylor was spat upon amid shameful scenes at Glasgow’s SECC.

On week eight of the McCoy’s Premier League Darts, the night should have been a night of pride for home heroes Robert Thornton and Gary Anderson.

But disgusting crowd antics towards Lewis and Taylor left a sour taste.

Twice world champion Lewis was heckled throughout his contest with Andy Hamilton and did superbly to block out the jeers and win 7-4.

At one stage during the match, the idiots chanted “Adrian Lewis, you’re a w****r”.

The Stoke star confessed he was shocked at the level of abuse and said: “I was shaking. Not because of playing Andy. I just didn’t feel safe.

“Every time you come to Glasgow, it is going to be tough because the crowd don’t like me. When they are swearing at you and booing, it’s hard.

“I thought they’d be a bit more respectful and it’s sad. This is the only place I have ever come to when I have felt I shouldn’t there.

“There were fans at the front who were fantastic and I feel sorry for them because it was just a few idiots at the back.”

There was more embarrassment for the lovers of the game when Taylor copped to get an earful of phlehm as he made his way to the stage for the game against Raymond van Barneveld.

The 16-times world champion stopped in his tracks and looked shocked at the appalling act before finally making it to the oche to defeat the Dutchman 7-3.

Taylor said: “It was disappointing and I’m a bit disgusted, to be honest.

“I wanted to go up and give the fans a show and it’s a shame if one fan wants to spoil it.”

Mercifully, Thornton lifted the spirits when he sent the audience into raptures in match two with a spectacular victory over Simon Whitlock.

He racked up an awesome average of more than 107 as he dismantled the Aussie 7-1 to book his next-phase spot.

Thornton said: “As we say in Scotland, it was pure, dead mental.”

But while there were smiles for Thornton, it was anguish for Anderson who is on the edge of relegation after a
              frustrating defeat by Wes Newton.

The Scot was again hammered by missed doubles.

Anderson must now defeat James Wade next week to have any chance of survival and said: “This is really doing my nut in. Someone asked me about seeing a psychologist. Take it for me, if I went to see one, I’d have him on the couch in five minutes.”

It's always the same when they go there. Shame but they should pull it from the tour.

Unnecessary stereotyping here. And from a Scottish paper too.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Ha. Thornton hits the 60 to leave 56 with 2 darts, Misses the fat 16 and lands in the 8.

1 dart for Whitlock and he takes it 7-4 from nearly 5-2 down

Aide hamered 7-2 as well (sadly by James Wade and not someone likeable)

                          Bad night for Stoke.
