Mental! The most Ive ever ran is 15 miles. I think realistically I just about have a marathon in my legs, but 110km is just unfathomable . What type of training have you done?
Thanks i'm going to need it, i'm not sure when a marathon becomes an ultra marathon but it's 69 miles, so roughly 110k.
Seemed a good idea when i signed up but becoming a bit more daunting now!
Running 69 miles?!
I can't get me head around that one. I mean training for a marathon or a half-marathon is one thing. 69 miles is unreal. I don't know how anyone could mentally or physically do it.
What sort of training are you doing at the moment? And who's your chosen charity?
ive ran a fair few marathons and half marathons and have signed up for the great wall run this year from carlisle to newcastle but thats spread over 2 days.
fair play to attempt the ultra. i take it u run over 1 day? wouldnt even know where to start with advice for something like that. with marathon training i dont run any more than 18 miles 3 weeks before the race itself and in the last 10 days you dont want to run more than a 10k distance. id imagine a similar strategy would aply for a longer run.
oh and plenty of cold baths leading up to it.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Geography wasn't your strong point at school, was it?
I'm doing one in a few months, just wondered if anyone had done one or a 100k distance? What kind of gear do you recommend? Any tips?
Any help appreciated!
If you haven't already read it try to pick up a copy of Born to Run by Christopher McDougal.
And good luck to you. Huge respect. You're clearly off your tits
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Thats the one i'm doing but it's the 1 day event, i'm not sure about times at the moment, i'm running it with a few other guys so i think we're just going to go for about 12-15 hours and see how we get on?

Not sure on the charity yet and as for training - working on my core to strengthen this up, have you heard of the P90X, it's a 90 day workout which helps to strengthen all parts of your body. So as well as that i've been doing long runs and sprints really. Not too sure on the actual race as what to drink /eat that of thing? i guess you gain it with experience but any help is appreciated!
