    You still training hard Pabs?

I've switched to forefoot running (after reading the McDougal book I mentioned earlier in the thread). The calves get it like. Really, really get it but I think it may have just about saved my knee!

Do you use the Nike+ thingy?

A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

**** me. I was a decent County level middle distance runner in my youth. 800m, 1500m and cross country....

      69 miles!

I would die, unquestionably. Probably after about 3 miles. Just the 66 miles short.

      I would definitely die.

Surely no-one would advise running for 69 miles?

My lungs feel ready to collapse after a short kick-around in the garden with my nephews. 69 miles!

It does worry me a bit to be honest, but I have absolutely no enthusiasm whatsoever to do any exercise

So far the furthest I've ever run is 20 miles, so this is a bit of a step up.

              What's your preferred shoe?

                Thought i'd revisit this thread!

Finished the 69 ultra, then did a 57m from London to Brighton and I've just signed up for my first 100 miler - Farnham to Ashford in Kent.

Anyone else get the running bug last year? Seems like an epidemic, loads of people have started running - streets are getting crowded. Guess it's that New Years resolution thing! I thought about the gym then thought again!

Absolutely mental. Ludicrous. Ridiculous. You're clearly off your rocker. Bat**** mental. Buy a car FFS!

Only joking mate, that truly is some feat. The furthest I've ever ran regularly is half marathon distance, and that genuinely felt like a strain on my body. To do what you do is incomprehensible to me. It's beyond my capabilities. I know how hard you must have to train, how many sacrifices you have to make to fit in that much training, how much time and effort it takes, the pain you have to go through.

Out of interest how old are you if you don't mind me asking?

No not at all, 26 but 27 on Monday!

To be fair i don't take it as seriously as i should, the 100m is in August but i'll probably hit full training mode in May/June whereas i know some of the guys that'll be running it are hitting it all year round. Just love to have that winter break and get the winter food jacket on!

It's tough getting the motivations on ****ty sunday morning to run for 5 hours but its worth it at the finish line!

You been tempted in going from the half to the full marathon?

                      Running for 5 hours

I'd love to do it, but in reality it's never going to happen for a couple of reasons.

Firstly I have a little daughter now. I work 40 hours a week and if I did marathon training I'd need to train an additional 2 hrs+ a night. By the time I was finished it'd been 9pm at the earliest and the little one would be off to bed. I'd never see her or get to spend time with her. That's just not an option for me.

Secondly I'm just not sure my legs have it in them. I've done 6 or 7 half marathons and am normally spent by the last mile or so. I never found them to get any easier the more I did and I never felt like I had another 13 miles in the tank! I think it's just beyond my capabilities in all honesty.

Good luck with the 100 miler. Let me know how you get on.

Wow mate, that's seriously seriously impressive. Im built for speed not distance, can manage 2 miles or so running, altho can walk pretty far.

Not that Im allowed to run at all at the mo tho. Osteo had banned me from it for the time being.
                        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I'd love to run the London to Brighton what was it like?

I managed 'The Toad' in Sep which was 90 miles over 3 days, 'The Druid' in Nov which was 86 miles over 3 days and this weekend I blasted through 'the Pilgrim' which was 66 miles in 2 days.

They are brilliant events and I can recommend them all, the banter is great!

I'm currently training for the Marathon Des Sables 2013. It's in April so only 8 weeks to go! My race number is 651 - I think it will be on ESPN this year.

You will spot me very slowly shuffling across the Sahara weighed down by gels and haribos! :-)

The Farnham to Ashford race is that along the North Downs? 100 miles is some distance! Good luck!

Cheers! High Factor sun tan lotion and imodium packed already!

We have to carry all our gear and food for the week. But the kit I am most concerned about is the anti-venom pump!
