**** thats awesome! Looked into that a few times but i just think it's a step too far at the moment, really good work though!Originally posted by cresser1 View PostI'd love to run the London to Brighton what was it like?
I managed 'The Toad' in Sep which was 90 miles over 3 days, 'The Druid' in Nov which was 86 miles over 3 days and this weekend I blasted through 'the Pilgrim' which was 66 miles in 2 days.
They are brilliant events and I can recommend them all, the banter is great!
I'm currently training for the Marathon Des Sables 2013. It's in April so only 8 weeks to go! My race number is 651 - I think it will be on ESPN this year.
You will spot me very slowly shuffling across the Sahara weighed down by gels and haribos! :-)
The Farnham to Ashford race is that along the North Downs? 100 miles is some distance! Good luck!
What gear do you need for that - whats your prefered trainers? They must fall apart after a while surely? I'd love to give the Death Valley Ultra a go at some point but again i reckon that might be a step to far!
Have you read Dean Karnazes / Scott Jurek / Chris Mcdougall's books on ultras? They're great reading, gets you pumped!!
Yup along the north downs, i live in Farnham so for training i run in one direction and back basically! Cheers, good luck to you too!'The tide is very much in our court now.'

Finished the 69 ultra, then did a 57m from London to Brighton and I've just signed up for my first 100 miler - Farnham to Ashford in Kent.
Anyone else get the running bug last year? Seems like an epidemic, loads of people have started running - streets are getting crowded. Guess it's that New Years resolution thing! I thought about the gym then thought again!
ive been on the shelf so to speak for near 11 months with my injuries. had to miss the wall run last year as easter weekend was when i tore about 4 muscles in my side / groin / thigh area and i was gutted.
im dying to get back running - to go from marathon training, fitness classes, playing fives etc... to absoloute nowt is a killer. im lucky to be able to walk 2 mile these days at a snails pace before im ****ed.
roll on surgery and getting back to where i was cause ive optimistically signed up for the glasgow half marathon in september as my comeback date
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

I am a regular runner. Stepped up to the marathon distance again a few months ago to see at the age of 46 if I still had it. The training commitment is a big ask if like me you have a youngish family and wife who likes the occasional help around the house.
I have it in my head to run the Comrades in south africa before the age of 50. It is a double marathon. I would have topped out at 50 to 60 miles for the last few weeks of my marathon training. I was wondering how many miles you would need to be doing per week for a go at an ultra and what distance would your long run at the weekend be?
Another thing. I find it really hard to run at slower paces which are recommended for your long run This is because I think everyone has a natural rhythm that the body feels biomechanically suited to. I think I would find it hard to plod for such long runs.

A good friend of mine has done the MdS twice, he also did some thing in the Amazon but had to be airlifted to hospital with dehydration.
I'll find out if he is doing it this year, he'll be able to sort you right out.The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Big-Red-Ed is right about time.
I did a sprint tri last year and wanted to do an olympic one this year before building up to full iron man but **** me with a missus, 3 kids ranging from 13 to 2 and the 13 year old being involved in academy football it is nigh on impossible to do any proper training.
I'd have achived much more if it hadn't been for those (my) pesky kids...............The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I've done the Dublin marathon in 2007,08,09 and even though i'd be regular in the gym,jog 3 times per week and play football.. long distance running is really an acquired taste. I've done my long runs and had enough of them. Absolutely incredible distances some of you guys are putting in.. can only respect that

Thats very true about the pace but its just something you get used to over time. I don't mind upping it a bit and running 6/7 minute miles and doing 10k's in about 38/40 minutes - but then cranking to 10/12 minute miles for 50m +. It's tough to start with, when i was training for the first ultra i went straight out at 8 minute miles and burned up really hard at 20 miles - i was a cripple. Then slowly over a few months i slowed down and i could sustain that pace for a lot longer. I feel if you keep it up you can change from 10k's to ultras in a few months with the right training. It's really important with Ultras to just keep monitoring yourself as everything gets amplified on the longer runs. A good rule i go with for ultras is if you can't see the top of the hill walk it!Originally posted by Big-Red-Ed View PostI am a regular runner. All the best for that - so bloody frustrating knowing you cant go out! You'll have to let us know how it goes in the warm up to September!Originally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Postrespect mate.
