Thanjk you.

Smith, Amla and Kallis all played monumental innings, pretty much saw off everything England could throw at them... Actually DID see off everything England could throw at them.
On the Saturday I was there you could easily see the problem. Lack off options. Against teams with a decent batting line up England need to have 5 front line bowlers. Once they had seen off Anderson and Swann a few loose overs from Broad - Bresnan not really creating much and you couldn't see what England could do to make the breakthrough.
Given that Prior, Bresnan, Swann and Broad are all capable of getting a few runs and the fact that the number 6 position is proving difficult to fill this decision should be a no brainer.
Drop Bopara, and replace him with Finn.
Its a shame (disgraceful) that it is only a 3 match test series. But England will need to improve massively to win or draw the series and will find it hard to stop SA replacing them as the no 1 Test side in the World.
Even allowing for this, SA strong favorites after such a crushing win. Fearsome batting line up with ridiculously high batting averages against England.
Be amazed if they play 5 bowlers having gone with 4 for such a long time. They will also point to the collapse in the first innings and the poor showing in the second as a reason for playing an extended batting line up

i agree it would be a massive change, but as it stands SA are the most formidable opponents England have faced in a long time. If they go with 4 against that batting line up, I think they will lose again.
It makes sense for other reasons though, as the 6th batsmen (be it Morgan, Bopara, Bairstow) haven't contributed.
I think SA are in a commanding position and it will take an incredible effort for England to pull it back from here (particularly in a 3 test series)

For the 4 bowler attack to work at least 3 have to be pretty much on top form and taking wickets also Swann needs to tie down one end to allow the seamers to rotate. He seems to have had a slight dip in form.
If only we had an all rounder to bat at 4 and take some crucial wickets.
They were debating Kallis on the Sky coverage with a couple of them saying he is the best all rounder to play the game.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
Consistently a threat with bat and ball. When he came in on sat - the score board showed his average being about 60 and a total of 12,000 career runs...
Well, we've all done that to ourselves, haven't we?
Sobers was a great athlete - he could bowl spin as well as fast, a brilliant attacking batsman, great fielder, great captain...
Plus he isn't South Efrican.
