Gooch spotted Cook?????Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostI like Gooch, he seems to have a good eye for a player too, picking out Nasser Hussain and Cook before they became Test cricketers.
I'm interested by this one man, one team idea Dan. Didn't we try that with Raymond Illingworth? Granted he didn't have the players and he wasn't a very intelligent tactful fellow, his torade against Devon Malcolm proved that much.
Would your one man be responsible for coaching sessions too? Do we need someone removed from the coaching to make the decisions?

Chilli you generally talk a lot of sense about cricket however i have to take issue with you about Flintoff.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostI
Flintoff = 29 (recently) potentially 3 Ashes series as a batsman, 2 as a bowler
Given the nature of the injury he suffered last year, ankle stress fracture, i think it's highly doubtful that Flintoff will ever return to being the type of bowler who helped knock Australia over in the 2005 ashes.
Gone are the 20 - 25 overs per innings bowler.

Next Coach - should be Tom Moody
Done excellent job with the boys, made them an excellent test/one day unit.
He`ll bring back Trevor Penney with him, and also England need to get their TV analyst back from the ICC
Get another bowling coach (sorry Shine, your out) - get an old head - maybe Wasim or Walsh
England may have got stuffed in this series (predicatable) but wait for the future - England have more players coming through than Australia, plus they have more Kolpal style players (ie KP) around, and crucially in the next 10 years, they`ll be more Asian players playing for England
Just look at Rashid at Yorkshire and there is another offspinner who turns it ala MuraliWe need better attacking players!
Torres aint enough

I've been thinking the same thing and frankly it's rather depressing.Originally posted by spud_gun View PostChilli you generally talk a lot of sense about cricket however i have to take issue with you about Flintoff.

Will be sad to see him go, but it makes sense. He's not in the Running for the World Cup and you cant go out any higher than after regaining the ashesOriginally posted by Beachy View PostLooks like Shane Warne, the greatest bowler to play the game, will retire at the end of this Ashes series

And you can expect a lot more "eligible" youngsters from South Africa, who've had enough of the selection policy over hereOriginally posted by ARIMAN View PostEngland may have got stuffed in this series (predicatable) but wait for the future - England have more players coming through than Australia, plus they have more Kolpal style players (ie KP) around, and crucially in the next 10 years, they`ll be more Asian players playing for England

I did say "potentially" which is sort of your point. If he can recover from this recent bout of injuries then, potentially, he may have 2 Ashes series as a bowler, he'd only be 33 and bowlers can go a lot longer these days. I agree with you though, I think he should concentrate on his battin now and be an occasional bowler. Sad but true.Originally posted by spud_gun View PostChilli you generally talk a lot of sense about cricket however i have to take issue with you about Flintoff.
