    Go Australia!
    Was muß, das muß.

    Comment

When* Froome wins, do you think this thread will have lots of British posters shouting "Go Britain"? No.**

I don't get why so many Australians are so lopsidedly nationalistic. It's touchingly childish in a way but any pack of squealing under-fives soon gets tiresome if they're not your own.

The only benefit really is that it will make it fun to watch them lose the Ashes and then pretend they don't care.

      * Ok, if.

** And not because he's Kenyan.
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Arguably Britain was the same as that last summer. Everything was Team GB. I quite like it in sport, it's sort of nice to be proud of your country for something as pure* as a sporting win.

FWIW I am not a flag waver myself.

We had the bloody Olympics here FFS! Something of a unusual event, don't you think? Set against that Australia hasn't won a Tour de France stage since, er, yesterday.

I don't mind Australians taking pleasure in the successes of their compatriots. I enjoyed Wiggins' victory, Sky's dominance and Cavendish's brilliance last year. And yes, it's a fair point that some - too many - used it all as an opportunity to wave the flag. Personally that just looks like an attempt to bask in the reflected glory of association.

In other words, rather more "isn't this brilliant" and a lot less "aren't we brilliant".

Boohoo Neil. It's GreenEDGE's first yellow jersey as well as being the first Australian ProTour team. Yes I'd say that warrants a 'Go Australia'.

Just because the UK has a problem with showing any kind of national pride doesn't mean you have to belittle other's enthusiasm for their country's (even if it's adopted!) achievements.

That's how Australians are, there's no jingoism(?) at play here.

GreenEDGE's win and Gerrans in the yellow is huge for Australian cycling - great to build on Cadel's success in 2011.

As forester mentioned, this is Australia's first ever pro team, winning two stages of Le Tour in the row and holding the maillot jaune!!! I think it's brilliant.

                Australia's boss.
                On the Ning Nang Nong
                Where the Cows go Bong!
And the Monkeys all say Boo!
                There's a Nong Nang Ning
                Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots Jibber Jabber Joo.
                On the Nong Ning Nang
                All the mice go Clang!
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
                So it's Ning Nang Nong!
                Cows go Bong!
                Nong Nang Ning!
                Trees go Ping!
                Nong Ning Nang!
                The mice go clang!
What a noisy place to belong,

Yes I know and yes there is. Australia didn't win it. Gerrans did. And the stage he won on Sunday he was led out by a South African. Er, Go Australia and South Africa?

It's not a country's achievements. The same applies whatever the country.

And anyway I was mainly teasing you. Not entirely though I'll readily admit. Foster.

And I refrained from saying it when Cadel won the TdF. But GreenEDGE deserve some praise and to a lot of fans, they are representing Australia.

I'm sure you're right, to a lot of fans they are. And of course the team milks it. But they aren't really, they're a commercial organization exploiting a (misplaced, in my view) national pride. It's the same with Sky.

Incidentally I like the way FdJ have taken all the sponsor's logos off Vichot's French national champion's jersey. Marc Madiot, the team director, asked FdJ if they'd do it and they agreed. That's a bit more like it. And the jersey looks great as a result.

We're a small population at the arse end of the world and we're proud of our sporting achievements!

Meanwhile you're badly governed and dominated by an elite bleeding the rest of the population. And what is Orica exactly?

That's why we live vicariously through our sporting achievements.
