      Went out last night with solid intentions, and got a flat 4 miles in. Luckily I packed a new inner tube. Changed that mother****er in 15 minutes flat.

          I did then go flat out after fixing the flat, your right. The trouble is that the hill I was going up was not very flat, so the flat I had replaced needed to get to a proper pump and get some air into it. You know, to stop it from going flat again.

            That's the trouble with hills, they're rarely flat. What pump have you got?

              Cant remember the name of it. Its good for getting a temporary amount of air, but it gets to the point when it wont push in anymore.

                Yeah, they all do that. Like the one I posted claims to be able to get to 160psi but I reckon that's probably impossible. Still, it does get to 100psi before your arm falls off and that's quite good enough for getting back home.

                I've got the model down from that, which claims 120psi. I've got nearly 90psi in before giving up which again is fine.

                Other pumps I've had have been useless.

                  I read that Cycle wheels should be between 55 and 65 psi. Is that right? Seems really high.

                    It depends. Road, hybrid or MTB? What does the manufacturer recommend for the tyre? Is the surface condition wet or dry?

                      I have my road tyres about 120-130psi in summer, when it's dry. Around 100psi in winter.

                      That's for the rear wheel. 10% lower on the front.

                        I dunno, its my old bike and I couldn't see any markings on the side. As mentioned before, I think im going to get a new/newer bike soon. Just using this until I can muster the funds.

                            I don't recall, what kind of bike is it?

                            The markings on pressure (and size etc.) are difficult to see. They're usually stamped into the rubber of the sidewall rather than printed on like the branding is. If you know what the make and model of tyre is from the branding then you can probably find out what the recommended tyre pressures are by using the, er, internet.

                              Mountain bike. Its specialized. But that's as far as I know while at work. Its er....black...

                              I think I must have curbed it (is that possible) as the walls are a little worn down.


                              Reece, I think I will do interest free credit eventually. But im weighing up if its worth doing it now or waiting until the new year when all of the 2012 bikes are on sale.

                                Aren't 2012 bikes on sale now? I know September is when all next year's road bikes are brought out.

                                Maybe though the timing is different for mountain bikes.
