Yes. The only ITT of the race. And it's only 39km, with a fair bit of climbing apparently.
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

does it suit Froome you think?

He should gain time. Contador is an excellent time triallist, especially on a lumpy course, but you'd think Froome would be favourite among the main contenders. Maybe even for the stage win too.

If he doesn't gain significant time, I can't see him winning the overall.

think I am going to have to pay attention to this tour a little bit more.

reading through the posts it was LaMonde I first remember in the tour must have been 89/90 something like that.

half a minute isn't too bad, gets confusing with these bonus seconds though

Could well have been. Lemond won in 86, 89 and 90 IIRC.

I was quite young but remember him because of something to do with being shot - I think anyway!

They are all a bunch of drug riddled anorexics (sp)

                          Confusing and difficult and annoying.

When the Tour scrapped time bonuses a few years ago I thought it would be rubbish. But it was immediately great, it makes it a pure race.

They have had to amend the route in the Tour a bit to make it interesting in the first few days. Instead of all those flat stages that Petacchi and Cipollini used to win, they've put in some early uphill finishes to keep the yellow jersey battle interesting.

But the Vuelta has got loads of uphill finishes and time bonuses. The bonuses skew the racing tactics and, like last year, will probably skew the final result. Ok, it's the same for everyone and they all know the rules but it favours riders who can sprint at the end. It just means they don't really have to attack - they can just hang on and then go for bonuses at the end, like Valverde and Rodriguez did (yet again) today.

                          It's a fix.

think thats why I love the tour, it really does require someone that can do it all to win it out-right.
