Kevin Pietersen to say sorry and trigger an England recall

Kevin Pietersen's return to the England team could be confirmed within the next 48 hours.

The batsman is expected to make a fresh apology, starting a process that could see him added to the India tour squad.

Pietersen, 32, will say sorry for sending "provocative" text messages and commit himself to playing for England in all forms of cricket.

He has not played for England since being dropped for the final Test against South Africa in August.

BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew said: "It does appear that the first stage of Pietersen's reintroduction to the England camp will start sometime this week - and possibly as early as Tuesday.

"This will include an apology from the batsman for his conduct, and particularly for the text messages that were sent between him and the South African dressing room.

"We can also expect an assurance that England's commitments will come first - that is, after all, where all of this began and it remains the central issue.

"It will then be for the management and selectors to decide whether Pietersen will be a late addition to the team to tour India next month."

Pietersen had targeted a return to the national team for the tour of New Zealand in February.

But with England heading for a tricky tour to India in November, the batsman could be drafted in to boost an inexperienced batting line-up.

New Test and one-day captain Alastair Cook has been positive about Pietersen's return to the fold ever since taking over from Andrew Strauss.

But he leads a team to India that includes uncapped pair Joe Root, 21, and Nick Compton, who hit 1,191 runs for Somerset this season.

Discussions between Pietersen and the England and Wales Cricket Board have been ongoing since the second Test against Proteas at Headingley, when the Surrey man himself cast doubts on his future - a claim he later backtracked from.

Pietersen also apologised to former captain Strauss, who was allegedly criticised in the texts he sent to the South Africans - although he denied he offered any tactical advice.

England begin their four-Test winter tour of India on 15 November in Ahmedabad, with subsequent fixtures in Mumbai from 23 November and Kolkata from 5 December, before finishing in Nagpur for the final Test which starts on 13 December.

    India v England Test series

15-19 November: 1st Test, Ahmedabad (Motera)
23-27 November: 2nd Test, Mumbai (Wankhede Stadium)
    5-9 December: 3rd Test, Kolkata
    13-17 December: 4th Test, Nagpur

I think this is the right decision.

They then need to mend the obvious split in the dressing room. There is obviously an issue with KP and some of the other senior players, and them taking the piss by following the fake KP account on (****ing) Twitter obviously didn't help. Both sides in the wrong here, and total cluster**** in how all parties tried to fix the situation.

Common sense prevails. Shame they didn't get it sorted in advance of the 20/20 WC.

Kevin Pietersen agrees new England contract
Kevin Pietersen has signed a new four-month England contract but must undergo a "reintegration" period before he returns to the team.
The 32-year-old batsman was dropped for sending "provocative" text messages to opposing players during the Test series against South Africa.
Pietersen, who now has a central contract which could be extended until September 2013, said: "I believe, all being well, I will be back in an England shirt as soon as possible."
He has apologised to ex-captain Andrew Strauss but the ECB accepts the texts were not critical of him.
"I'm fairly happy we're able to move forward. It's been a horrible situation for all those involved and I'm happy we're able to draw a line under it and move on for a better result for England cricket," said Pietersen.
The new contract will cover all forms of the game and the decision over an extension, to make it a full-year contract, will be made by team director Andy Flower.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise to my team-mates, all England supporters and the ECB for the situation that has arisen over the last couple of months," added Pietersen.
"Thankfully we have drawn a line under it and can move forward. Although it has been made clear in the statement, I'd like to make it clear that at no time did I share tactical information with any of the South Africans.
"I'm committed to completing the reintegration process we have agreed and representing England in all formats, hopefully until the World Cup in 2015 if my body allows.
"I want to see my son grow up seeing me play for England and hope one day he will put an England shirt on himself."

          First test next Thursday

Just read that Swann has had to fly back to be with his Ill daughter but is expected to fly back out before the first test.

Borad and Finn looking doubtful with injury.

Looks like Compton is going to get the opener position.

            Predictably grim start. 224-1.

Hang on, Swanny's just bowled Sehwag for 117. Here comes Sachin

            224-2

We deserve a thumping after deciding to pick Bresnan instead of Monty. Bresnan is useless since his injury.

Bresnen isn't useless. Well he is in the sub continent. Its madness not picking Monty though. It looks such a slow pitch.

Show me where he has performed since his injury?

He's lost his zip. He's just a military medium nothing bowler now.

Think he has only played one test since the injury? Could be wrong.

I am wrong. He played 6 tests last year.

Best figures are 104-4 and 39No in one test. Take your point after seeing that. I just have memories of him ripping it up in 2010/11
