I don't blame the ECB for the team selection though, the right squad is out there, but Flower and Cook got the team selection wrong in that first test. I think Flower fessed up to that being his fault.

I couldn't agree more. I don't care if someone corrects a mistake, all that matters is that they never get anything wrong to begin with..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

That's the point though Neil. They made that mistake last winter in the UAE against Pakistan. Went into the game with one spinner, got beaten and then brought Monty into the side who proceeded to nearly bowl us to victory (batsmen couldn't chase down 150). Why have we made exactly the same mistake in the first game in this series? Every pundit said of the morning of the test we should pick two spinners, the Indian broadcaster even did a viewers poll and over 70% said we should have picked Monty.Originally posted by Neil Young View Post

I'm agreeing with you. They should never have had the chance to correct their mistakes. And since they were wrongly given the opportunity to do so which, in their typically spineless way, they have taken, they must now be criticised even more strongly for the previous decisions which they themselves have proved to have been so badly wrong by subsequently taking the right decisions with the wholly unjustified outcome of achieving such a stunning success.
We are as one on this issue, Foggy. As one.

Great news.Originally posted by Chazza View PostDavid Saker was talking up Finn today.
Also said they are concerned about Broad's form.
In our rise to number one we had total clarity as to our best side and tactics. Since becoming and subsequently losing the number one spot we have been consistently muddled in our thinking. Broad is another example of this. After a terrible summer with ball and questions about his selection he is made vice captain. Two matches later they are now in the situation where they are going to have to drop their vice captain because of his shocking form.

Some more quotes from Saker
Looks like they are sticking with 2 seamers and if they do that then Broad has to be the one dropped for Finn."We expect if you only play two seamers that they have some influence in the game," added Saker.
"We need them to do the job they've been asked to do and Stuart probably hasn't done that as yet. He was sick, but I don't think we can blame his performance on that.
"He bowled some decent overs but, on the whole, wasn't up to his standard. We have to deal with that and make sure he's better the next time he plays."
Will show intent from the management and selector's and hopefully give broad the kick up the arse he needs.

Yeah succession planning, but also recognition that being in charge of all formats is too much work. Think he'll go in 2 Ashes time.Originally posted by Alex View PostStart of the transition of Flower leaving completely I think.
I reckon other cricket boards will copy us.
